Flickr Forum - October 19th, 2007 - ORANGE
The blogTO Flickr Forum is a weekly sampling of themed photographs taken by Torontonians and aims to not only feature the talent they possess, but also spur dialogue and reveal the stories behind the images.
Today's collection of Toronto photographs is made up of responses to our call for photos that fit the theme "ORANGE". These images were all recently submitted to the blogTO Flickr pool.
To the photographers: we'd love to hear about your photos. A little info on where it was taken and the story behind the photo is always a great start.

This image was captured while on assignment for the Beach-Riverdale Mirror community newspaper covering an open house for Fire Prevention week. This was last Saturday afternoon at the Toronto Fire training academy on Eastern Ave, East of Leslie.
The scenario is a mock-up of a car fire for fire fighters to train with. It's a steel structure with a gas valve inside that can remotely produce all levels of fire simulating a real blaze.
My viewpoint was looking through the fire to see a fire fighter standing by for safety watching others put on a demonstration. The fire was flickering out from the hood so I tried to line him up through the heat & flames. I really got lucky to find such an ominous shape within the flames to look like a serpant of some kind trying to break free.
The "beast" monicker is ironic where some refer to fire as an animal or beast.

John, I'm jealous you made it to the fire training academy presentations. They're in my hood but I didn't get time last weekend. Looks like it was cool though.

I tried a couple of different crops with this image. I found the square frame to be the best compositionally, with the tip of his sandy snout anchoring the centre of the frame. Also, the inclusion of both the ball as well as the rear paw in the right measure was important: the rear paw gives his body that "ready to pounce" energy.
The "through the viewfinder" border was added on in Photoshop. (I'm such a faker.) It's something new that I've been playing with -- and, in part, fearing that I'm overdoing it. (Best just let me get it out of my system.) But I think it works here in a number of ways. It justifies the square frame, for one. I also find that it creates an immediacy of sorts, putting the viewer in the shoes of the photographer in the very moment captured.
In simpler terms, it's a photo of a really really cute dog.

My BF is an iTunes subscriber. He purchased some songs for me. And, of course, I cannot play them on my PC or burn to a CD because they need to be converted.
Now I'm looking for a converter that will convert itunes songs to mp3. Please recommend me one you used.
