20070517_fff.jpgThe blogTO Flickr Forum is a weekly dialogue for Torontonians and is based on their photographs and the stories behind them.

These images were recently submitted to the blogTO Flickr pool. The people that took the photographs have been invited to participate in discussions about them here. Anyone can start! Don't be shy!

Here are some general starter questions for all nine photographers:

Where/when was it taken?
Is there a story within or about your photograph?

#5, "photojunkie, much?" is a portrait of none other than Rannie Turingan and was shot this past weekend at my 3rd Freestyle Photoshoot.

Rannie dropped by mid-afternoon with his usual Canon and new Nikon in tow. As we were taking some wacky photos at the time, Ran decided he'd get some more cameras. Stephanie had the Sony and oldschool Fujica with her so he strapped them on and we went for a walk over to the tennis courts for some paparazzi style portraits. He wears the look well.

More images from the day are up at DoubleCrossed.ca and le Flickr.

I'm the photographer for the Sakura (cherry) blossoms photo in the bottom-middle.

It was taken on may 7th when I went to high park after work to enjoy the spring and catch the sunset. I had been taking photos for a while by then and was relaxing on the blossom hill soaking in the last bit of sun. As the sun started to fade I packed up to head home and looked up the hill and saw the sun was beaming down on the one Sakura tree at the top of the hill alone.

I set about capturing the scene in infrared because I knew it would let the brilliant white blossoms pop out while darkening the building and trees behind it.

It was the last photo I took of the blossoms this year. I already miss the magic of being in the blossom grove. After the long winter its always my favorite way to know spring has fully arrived.

Well, what can I say? If you haven't heard about Toronto FC yet, you better check it out soon because we seem set to sell out the entire season. The new team has fulfilled the dreams of a small army of soccer fanatics who have filled the stadium with an energy that'll make Leafs fans weap!

This shot was taken in section 113 at the south-east corner of the stadium. The entire south end has been reserved as a supporter's section. Most of the action in this pic is from a group called U-Sector who has been supporting local soccer since 2000. The shot was taken just before the game at the end of the national anthem. I hope it catches a small bit of the flavour of the game.

Enjoy!

These are all absolutely stunning! Congrats all!

Wow Mike, I'm flattered to have made blogTO's Top 9 of the week.

Not much of a story behind my shot: I was plugging away with my 20-prime at 5 fps at the pillow fight--you were standing beside me, remember--and luckily the ladies got physical right in front of my face ("Izz nice!").

Hey Dan Epstein here (danepstein), taker of photo #6, "Brian with Joint".

The shot was taken at May 5th's Marijuana March/Freedom Festival in Queen's Park. The subject is my friend Brian, who was one of my roommates in residence in my first year at U of T. We're both American potsmokers and would revel in the freedom that we found in Toronto... Until one of our other roommates blew the whistle on us twice and we were nearly kicked out of residence. Thankfully we were not, and this picture seems to be a testement to our Canadian (more specifically Torontonian) potsmoking freedom still kicking three years later.

As for the technical bit I shot this on film with a Nikon F2, which was a standard press camera in the 70's, and a 19mm Tamron lens. The ridiculously wide angle was great for the pot festival (and prett much everything else) and I'll be posting some other pics from it once I get my second roll developed.

Hey everybody, I took the boringly-titled

"NMS Nathan Phillips Square Pillow Fight 54.jpg" (#2).

It was taken at NewMindSpace(http://www.newmindspace.com)
's Pillow Fight Toronto, which quite evidentally took place at Nathan-Phillips Square this year.

As both a spectator and participant in pillow fights in the past and the present, I can easily say that my favourite moment is when a large pillow suddenly bursts open, and feathers fly up and everywhere... Its magical, astonishing, and a whole lot of fun (especially when people remember to clean up afterwards).

I was weaving through the crowd taking photos, when suddenly I heard a burst. I saw feathers flying, shouted "this is what its all about!", whipped around, and took several photos.

In this particular photo I was entertaining the idea of the astonishment of the spectator, so I opted to include the heads of three onlookers while still including the burst of feathers (and a few pillows).

I apologize for not having named this photo; it was my priority to upload my photos as soon as possible, after post-processing.

any questions from our viewers? We'd be glad to answer any questions you have.. or are you all out enjoying this lovely sun?

Forever7887 on May 18, 2007 6:49 PM

Hi, Thanks for including my photo on your website. I took the Sakura blossom on the bottom right after enjoying a day of relaxing in the sun at high park on May 12. Most of the flowers were washed away in the storm during the week but a few trees managed to escaped that fate. :)

That's pretty cool to see my photo on here :) I am the eyes behind #7 'Such Great Heights'. It's actually an HDR although you probably wouldn't be able to tell. HDR's have a cool effect when you use duotones. It's shot from Ashbridges Bay and anyone that frequents the area probably knows exactly where I took it from.

As for anyone who cares, I graduated from UofT last year with a specialist in Urban Studies. So I think I'm drawn to anything Urban but my true love is decay and abandonment, like many others. I'm currently working for a property management company and travelling this bootiful country.

It'd be presumptuous to think people might have any questions. But holler if you do. :)
