20070413_fff_01.jpgThe blogTO Flickr Forum is a weekly dialogue for Torontonians and is based on their photographs and the stories behind them.

These images were recently submitted to the blogTO Flickr pool. The people that took the photographs have been invited to participate in discussions about them here. Anyone can start! Don't be shy!

Here are some general starter questions for all six photographers:

Where/when was it taken?
Is there a story within or about your photograph?

2. BLINKY!!! by Michael Hainsworth
3. brickworks by tysonwilliams.com
4. Spring Break-Up by peter bowers
5. Go Leafs!! by Harbourlight

Bonus picks after the jump.

And as a special treat, how about a few Zanta sightings:

Thank you for choosing this photograph for this week's Flickr Forum on BlogTO.

Brickworks was a little psychedelic project I decided to do one day: paint lots of bricks in many prime colours! Just joking around! Actually I was walking along Queen St East from the Beach and I noticed a wall of the building painted in many bright colours. As I framed the shot I knew it would create funky photograph. Someone obviously put a lot of work into the works of it and it deserved to be preserved. Camera: Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT Exposure: 1/250 Aperture: f/7.1 Focal Length: 140 mm ISO Speed: 200

Hello all... Thanks for selecting my photo, 'The Hand' for the FFF!

It was taken at the Yorkdale shopping centre - they're in the midst of a massive renovation to the mall, creating boulevards and adding skylights to create a streetscape feel to some parts of it. This is near the Old Navy store if I'm not mistaken. In any case, I hadn't seen it before and I love mechanical 'found-object' art like this. I exposed for the object itself and chose a low angle to contrast it against the skylight roof, and composed the background so the lines were off-angle to add a little motion to the scene to emphasize the 'reaching' aspect of the piece. I was with my two young children at the time so I didn't have time to take down the artist's name... Anyone know so I can add it to the flickrpost? Thanks again.

Hey Hamish,

I'm amazed at how you managed to keep the highlights in the background and expose the "hand" so well. great shot!

can anyone help Hamish with the artist's name?

Hi...

This was taken at the bridge in Toronto Harbour near the docks. Its taken with a Nikon D200, Sigma 10-20 mm lens, and I used a Cokin 2-stop ND Grad filter. I also posted a couple of other shots from the same location in Flickr. I have been shooting in the harbour for a couple of years, so I knew that the ice was breaking up and I was hoping to use the ice chunks as a good foreground element. Toronto harbour in winter is really really cold, so you have to dress accordingly.

Hi Johhny

I have a style ? ;)

I'm mostly self-taught, but I was fortunate to know a pro photographer by the name of Henry Georgi. He taught me alot, like the value of good equipment, good glass and above all how to edit and critique yourself. I studied Art in high school and although I finished in Physics I think those old ideas of composition and shape stuck somewhere. I really started to enjoy shooting when I got a Nikon D70...I love the immediate feedback and flexibility of digital. I've been able to learn alot about the fundamentals (like exposure and white balance) from the internet.

TOist has a weekly photo roundup (now at post 37 I think) wherein 28 some-odd photos are shown as their weekly faves, and there isn't much discussion. BlogTO posts a weekly round up with considerably fewer photos, but also encourages discussion amongst the photographers. The blogTO Flickr forum started later than Toist's Round Up.

Both Flickr pools often get photos that are exclusive to their pools.

Both weekly posts do good things that the other doesn't. No reason they can't coexist in harmony without bitter "I banged her first!" comments being exchanged.
