I just love Premier McSquinty's comments today imploring passengers to be nice to TTC drivers and "not threaten" them? WHAAA? As if the huddled masses are going to assault TTC drivers today! I still have this mental image of getting onto a streetcar very quietly, and then suddenly getting in the driver's face, and going "Boo!" That, or giving drivers an Atomic Wedgie.]]>

Here's a video that at least tries to make sense of the strike for people not from Toronto:

The lack of understanding I'm afraid is on the part of all the posters who seem to believe every TTC worker should be fired for having the nerve to exercise their right to collective bargaining - and withdraw their labour when they are in a LEGAL position to do so. It's not candy canes and rainbows but that's the tradeoff for living here. People got sat down for a weekend - it's unfortunate, inconvenient, shitty, but ultimately where did the weekend come from in the first place?

I think you'd still be able to do the pennies on a bus or streetcar without any problems. If you dump them in before they stop you, they can't very well fish them out. By not returning the money to you, they are essentially accepting it as payment.

Booth collectors on the other hand would probably be able to retrieve it easier.]]>

Before anyone goes through with the pennies idea, just be aware that legally, any retailer or service can refuse payment of something when pennies account for more than 25 cents of the total.]]>

Well cris, it's more than an inconvenience for me to have to WALK from FINCH to BLOOR to get to work. Or what about students at U of T (who are still in exams) who live in Mississauga and have to WALK from KIPLING to ST GEORGE? What a bunch of whiners! Or god forbid anyone have a disability or injury that makes walking long distances painful.]]>

For all the belly-aching on the internet you'd have thought someone flew a plane into the world trade centre or something. It's kind of embarrassing to see so many co-dwellers of my city lose their shit over being inconvenienced for a weekend. 'Oh I consider myself progressive and pro-union - until I have to WALK from EGLINTON to BLOOR'.

I'm not a Tory fan, but this is awesome (via National Post):

John Tory, the Conservative leader, said union members should consider whether their executive acted appropriately. "The average operator or driver would not have found it reasonable to start this strike without consideration of the traveling public," Mr. Tory told reporters. "I think it might be up to them to take some of their leadership out in the back and give them a horsewhipping."]]>

I even saw a moving subway about an hour ago at Davisville station, not necessarily a passenger-ready train though.

I'm surprised Kinnear hasn't resigned yet. Is he actually waiting for the lynch mob or what?]]>
