The best chocolate I've ever had is pedal-powered and stone ground; made here in Toronto. The company is called ChocoSol Traders. www.chocosoltraders.com/

You can get it at most of Toronto's organic markets. Dufferin Grove Park, Thursdays from 3-7 p.m. is open all-year around. http://dufferinpark.ca/home/wiki/wiki.php
The chocolate is also available at Food 4 Life in Kensington Market.

This is some of the most incredible tasting stuff I've ever had - totally different. I lived in Tokyo for 6-years and delighted in the free samples of exclusive European chocolates. I thought that was exciting. For me, ChocoSol's chocolate is at a totally different level.

This 'Best of' really needs to be re-assessed considering that JS Bonbons has been closed for well over a year and there are tons of worthy places listed in the comments that should be up there. Time for some new reviews.

Had a great experience last weekend at the cottage.
We were feeling a bit peckish late in the evening so lit the fire for some s'mores bars. Instead of using plain old chocolate bar pieces, we subsitited Simone Marie's mendiants (walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts, raison chocolates).
Combined with gooey, half-burned marshmallows and graham crackers this was a truly gourmet taste sensation!

I agree with Rob and Bernie that Simone Marie Belgian Chocolate in Yorkville should also be featured in the the best chocolate list. In my opinion, they are best for Belgian authenticity, quality and price value.

I'm a little disappointed by the selection of chocolate shops on this site. As a chocolate lover, I'm surprised The Swiss Master Chocolatier (Bayview and York Mills) or Teuscher (Bay and Bloor), for one, never made it to the list - chocolate texture, flavours, display and experience are truly remarkable.

Although a patisserie, Frangipane www.frangipane.ca has a good selection of some of the best chocolates I have ever tasted. Actually, I live near Dupont and Davenport and if I ever crave fine 'chocolat', I head to the Frangi (steps from JS at Madison and Dupont). Or, if you are glutton like me, try both!
