Do you still have the original footage? I know the deadline is long gone, but I'd like to play with it a bit...thanks :)]]>

right on. that's a really decent break down of her performance and the directing/editing of it.

I guess my point only was that because there are so few films being made here in toronto, by torontonians, no less, especially ones that are trying something different, that we (you, actually, the reviewer,) should make honest and full attempts at scoring them. which isn't to say that we should accept crap; if a film sucks it sucks. I just think this one had some decent moments worth talking about.

'preciate the responses matt!]]>

I guess my thing about the performance is that it felt unmodulated. Page is usually (okay, in the three flicks of hers that I've seen) a well-calibrated actress; that's something that comes out of a relationship with a director and the selections of the editor. Tracey Fragments was the first one where I felt like everything she was doing was just a rough draft - no doubt due to the improv nature of the shoot, but even in improv it's possible to get a higher level of performance polish (just look at the group scenes in MASH).

Anyways, I'm just pickin' nits at this point. Glad you liked the flick. Honestly, I wish it no ill. I just wanted it to be better (for me).]]>

I wouldn't say her performance was weak; it was improvised, for sure, and they let her try stuff that they should have probably left on the cutting room floor, but it wasn't weak! she had some really nice moments.

and I guess for me, those 'few beautiful moments where it (the visual design) really came through and offered something beautiful' was enough for me.

I hear what you're saying, but it didn't suck. ]]>

With you in spirit, Ronotoe, just not in the specifics on this one. I thought Page's performance was weak and I didn't feel like the visual design was actually contributing anything most of the time - just those few beautiful moments where it really came through and offered something unique.

I'm not against artists taking chances and I'm not against encouraging this kind of work, I just don't think it worked out this time.]]>

not sure how you can say this film 'sucked'. the acting was more than respectable and there was an honest attempt at expressing a unique vision, stylized and/or otherwise, that it should get an 'A' for effort and 'A' for must-see without qualification.

we need people trying different stuff with the medium. ]]>

Right... I guess it's been so long since I've seen a legal torrent that it slipped my mind that it was even possible :P]]>

The files are available as Torrents, which should cut down on any bandwidth concerns - get enough copies out there, and they don't even have to host 'em any more.]]>

I know, I know. I never thought I'd see an Ellen Page flick I didn't like, but there you have it.

I will say that it's rare in my life that a movie which I thought missed the mark as much as this one, has stayed with me as long as this one has. It's interesting, it's just not my idea of "good."]]>

Aww Matt,

I thought The Tracey Fragments totally rocked. I think your appraisal is fair though but for me the degradation of some of footage only added to my enjoyment of the film. ]]>

So if I take up the chance, can I actually say that I 'made' a film starring Ellen Page? Because that would just be super cool.]]>
