I agree Takami - yesterday CBC Newsworld asked 'us' to send us their thoughts on the London bombings. I sent them this, but I don't think they read it on the air (wonder why?):
Admittedly, as soon as I heard about this on this morning's radio I turned on the television to, for lack of a better phrase, 'witness the spectacle'. Given how two weeks ago you (CBC) suddenly dropped the Karla Homolka story in favor of a full day's coverage to the events, and how you seem about to be doing the same thing today, it occurs to me that you are complicit in the terrorism by giving these jerks all the attention they want. Would they be so quick to set off bombs and kill and maim if they knew the media would ignore it in favour of Tom Cruise's love-struck antics? I saw on the ticker that 15 people died in Iraq today, but you're quite comfortable in burying that story. Breaking News story spectacles are part of the problem, and are never informative. Why not wait until you can actually inform me of something, and give me news I can use, not water cooler gossip?
Glad to see the US isn't the only country full of drama-mongers. *sigh* The media is what makes all of this far worse than it is. Some day they will wake up and stop sensationalizing these events.

Looks like this page will be removed should anything happen in Toronto. Who are you to make statements such as "Toronot is not next"?. Maybe we are not "next" but sometime in the future for sure. Toronto (or any other Canadian city) is not prepared for this kind of tragedy - and that's a fact. And no, news editors are not the only people freaking out - maybe the're just more realistic.

"provincial sense of inferiority"... this is precisely what all the moaning about what terrible danger Canada is in makes me think. I get the sense that a lot of our officials secretly wish we would be attacked, because it would place us on the world stage.

as for paralyzing our public transportation system, they don't need any bombs. Just have a few ill passengers pressing the emergency buttons in the subway train, that will do it

I'm guessing the country that sent the rhesus monkies to Iraq is higher on the terrorist hit list than Toronto.

All of the hooplah about this seems to be a very twisted and sick version of TO's "world class city" complex. If we got hit, that'd prove we're up there with London and NYC, right?
