I went to the Burger Shoppe the other day, and was so disappointed. Who doesn't offer veggie burgers these days? Instead all they have is breaded deep fried tofu which they put on a bun. I'll take the Gourmet Burger Company over this place any day!!!]]>

i tried the organic burger at the 'shoppe' when they first opened...
i laughed and laughed when i saw the "chef" who was cooking the burgers...if anyone could look the part...she nailed it. a vegan cooking my burger!!!! aaarrrghh!!! no!!! it was seasoned wih nothing but s & p while it was cooking and was no great shakes when all was said and done. i asked for it med. rare...but since the vegan was cooking it for me..it came med. well...
yikes!
i'll never go back but for about $12, i get to tell the story of the vegan burger chef forever!!

I am a burger lover and always came away satisfied from Dangerous Dan's. When this place opened up I did not want to even try it... I tend to stick to what I know and love. But a couple of weeks ago I decided to give them a try... I guess I should have gone in the very beginning (I guess) when the service was still decent. So, the place was packed with what looked like professionals... People who would probably walk by Dan's and squish their faces at the diner look of it. I should have been prompted by the fact that everyone looked irritated and only one person was eating. So I placed my order: A burger with a side of poutine and bottled pop. Well, they're out of cheddar cheese. Okay... I suppose this can be expected from an artisinal burger place. Too bad though, I was seriously craving poutine - it was actually the only reason I wanted to try their food. So I switch my order to the blue cheese burger with side salad and bottled pop figuring maybe someone on high was trying to save me from a few hundred extra calories. Then the wait began... I waited and waited and waited. This is lunch time when people who work... have lunch. Generally we don't have hours and hours to get a bite and eat it. I am one of those sorry losers. But don't pity me yet. So, about 20 minutes later I get my order. I walk back to my office building sit down and at this point I'm pretty excited about the prospect of my much anticipated, juicy, gourmet lunch. I open the back and lift the lovingly wrapped burger off a box of onion rings. Great. Don't get me wrong, I like onion rings... The only trouble with them is that the break apart as the touch my lips. I am a working professional... imagine the looks of disgust from my co-workers as I eat... partially covered in the bread crumbs that come streaming out of my parted lips. Cool. So, I eat about 60% of the rings, the 60% that did not end up on my clothes or on the floor. My burger at least is still warm. I ate, or rather attempted to eat, the rings first because we all know cold deep-fried anything is just gross. I open up the wrapping on my still-warm all-american super sandwich... The blue cheese has oozed deliciously all over it. It looks amazing. But, what do I see peeking out from underneath the patty? A tuft of yellow lettuce. Yes, folks, yellow. Not wilted from the heat of the patty, not light-green like from the centre of this most unoffensive vegetable, but yellow. MMM. Needless to say I was still famished after semi-eating my rings, so I removed the lettuce and dug in. Aside from the fact that there was a little too much greasy, salty blue cheese... which is kind of the nature of it anyway, the patty itself was excellent. Soft, juicy and delicious. Oh, and my small batch root bear was awesome. All this for about $15. Which, is about the price of an average entree at many of this fine city's restaurants... Will I eat there again? Not unless someone else goes there, orders it and pays for it. My burger choices will have to be Dangerous Dan's and Speedy Burger near the DVP on-ramp. No, they are not chic, nor high-brow, nor can they brag that their beef is the best in the city, but darn it when you want a satisfying, well-priced and tasty bad-for-you treat, they're the places you want to go. Besides, despite the appearance of both eateries, the staff are very friendly and you'll be out of there in 5-10 minutes with EXACTLY what you ordered.]]>

We've been going go this place every few months since it opened. Over time we felt the price/quality tradeoff was getting worse, which is unfortunate because I like the concept, owners and neighbourhood and just generally wanted this shop to do well.

We went last night and they have changed substantially--the meat is sourced from a new supplier (Rowe Farms?), the buns are new and more substantial, and the onion rings were picture perfect. The price has stayed the same, although the meat is now 100% organic (previously an extra cost).

My wife and I had a sweet meal for $20 all in--I recommend to those who have had a so-so experience at this place before to give it another try.]]>

My colleague and I wanted to try out this place and ended up PISSTOFF with no food! We went there looking forward to taste their famous burgers, but ended up with bad service and LONG WAITS! We had to wait 1 HOUR and YET...still NO FOOD. Even the people AFTER us got their burgers, but we never got ours...and the person there brushed us off with saying "it's coming." or "they came before you" but in fact, we were there before any of those people and it's STILL not coming! Another note is, they were letting takeout orders to bud in...to a SMALL, 2 people shop like THIS...they shouldn't be taking massive takeout orders to begin with and to handle the CROWD that's standing there first. We ended up walking out with refund and NO LUNCH! when parking meter is up and our lunch hour was used up in WAITING!
all for all...this place SUCK in service wise. Forget about the quality of food...they've lost me as a customer already!]]>

On the service side, it seemed like they were training someone new when we were there, so perhaps they're actively trying to make sure they've got someone friendly and dependable at the counter. I switched something in my order and he ended up putting mayo on my burger but none on someone elses, but it was probably my fault for confusing him. ;)]]>

People seemed to have a lot of issues with the Burger Shoppe when it first opened, but I have been there a few times, and each time had a great burger, much better than I get anywhere else. It is worth the extra money for a once in a while indulgence!]]>

Tanja, i LOVE that headline picture!!! And admittedly the burgers at The Burger Shoppe are top shelf. A tad on the expensive side though and when i was there (a month or two after they opened) they didn't have all the kinks worked out of the service side. I'd be interested to know how they're doing now.]]>
