thanks for the insight Matt. i'd spent weeks looking through NASA footage of various missions (for Zero Hour - the Columbia tragedy), so maybe i was just a bit jealous someone else unearthed this fresh footage.]]>

Hi Sookie,

Mr. Sington informed us that the footage was recently dug out of storage to be transfered to hi-definition video, as the original film elements were in danger of decaying. So it was a bit of fortuitous timing that lead the film team to be able to use the new material for this doc.]]>

NASA has extensive footage archives made available to filmmakers and broadcasters, so I wonder why this particular footage was "locked in NASA's basement for decades". I'm always skeptical when I hear that footage like this is available all of a sudden and if true, why this filmmaker was offered such access.]]>

I'm always really hesitant about the "list the dead" thing. The flick does a good job with the fire in the capsule that took the lives of three astronauts, and there were no casualties in the Apollo 13 mission, so on the whole I think leave well enough alone.]]>

It makes me want to start saving $$$$$$ for a trip to the moon right now.

If Space Tourism happens within our lifetime, I hope I'll be fit and healthy enough to go.

Great question you asked yesterday, Matt. Really hard to balance a doc about hope and space without at least touching on the tragedies of the endeavour.

Do you think it would've pushed it, if the film at least listed the astronauts who died? Not in a sentimental way... it would've added a tad bit more scope and reality. What do you think?]]>
