I went to the show driving from Buffalo. Definitely worth the wait! Hopefully they will do a proper tour soon.]]>

Beth, awesome review, great photos!

Mike - I disagree. I was pleasantly surprised that there was a bit of an edge to their live show - I thought they sounded great and am quite pleased they weren't the glossy pin-up pop perfection band that I thought I might get.

They ride what can usually be an aggravatingly fine line between dance-rock & retro-cuteness, but by throwing in a dash of theatre and tons of really nice (but not overdone at all) dance choreography to go with their stunning songs and <ahem> good looks their show works - very well.

I had a blast and am glad I was fortunate enough to be there. ]]>

It was a great, fun show although I came out of the show not liking their music as much as I thought I would. I really like the song Pull Shapes but I'm probably in the minority here but I think I prefer them on record more than live. I'd agree that part of the live act was too cute/over the top for me but musically they put a decent spin on the girl group genre. Musically, they didn't stray that far from a genuine girl group sound. Their revisionist spin on the genre is far more subtle(maybe in the lyrics perhaps ie the riot grrrl punk & feminist ideals you mention) in my opinion. ]]>

Great review. I couldn't have said it better.

My only regret is that when their set ended (2:15, 3:15 if you factor in the time change), I was too bagged to hang around for the other acts. Next time.]]>

thumbs up review. i think you said it all.

maybe i was too busy taking it all in but i never found their dancing overthetop/too-anything, it actually felt sorta unpolished which is what i liked about it. they kept it down to earth, despite everything.

modern artists are sampling the andrews sisters and look at dreamgirls, we love a good ol'fashioned revival and the pipettes know it. all i had to do was tell my sister i saw a indie pop all girl doo-wop group and the next thing out of her mouth was, when will they be playing next.

+ major points to one of the members of the cassettes who was dancing to united steel workers and the harmonicas afterwards.

+ thanks for the link.

cheers]]>
