I had the chance to see the double-bill of Vanessa Beecroft and Annie Pootoogook last night at the Canadian Art Reel Artists Film Festival. I was fascinated by the juxtaposition of these two vastly different women artists. Vanessa Beecroft is a European artist who through her art works through her hang-ups and control issues of the female nude body. Annie Pootoogook is an Inuit artist that draws pictures of daily life in her seemingly desolate home town of Cape Dorset. While both women are at different ends of the art spectrum, they share a commonality of "coping" through their art. Really quite fascinating.]]>
