I'm orginally from Canada and now live in the U.S.A. and I have to add my two cents to this conversation. I love Smarties (the Canada version not Rockets as we know it)and I can not buy nor find them anywhere in the U.S. I actually have my family send boxes of Smarties to me when ever they can because I just need my Smarties fix!!]]>

I've managed to save up roughly $70044 in my bank account, but I'm not sure if I should buy a house or not. Do you think the market is stable or do you think that home prices will decrease by a lot?]]>

as a kid in the US i used to always eat a candy called smarties. they were like little candy pills wrapped in celophane. id trade them for chocolate candies any day.

Late response, but here it is. Smarties were not invented in Canada - in England, if Martin's Smartie page is correct.

Lots of interesting smartie facts on his page - he is a collector. google smarties canada & his page will come up.

hope your canadian event was fun!

(another canadian food - butter tarts! most americans (especially in the south) have never heard of them! also no ketchup chips,or j-cloths)

I'm planning a youth camp on the July longweekend and we are having a "Canadian Theme". Does anybody know if the inventor of Smarties was Canadian? if so do you know the name of the person or where I can find more info?]]>

I've seen those but man unless you're a purse lugging boy or gal, a tube is much less convenient than the good ol' box.]]>

They do sell smarties in the states but I've never seen a BOX of smarties down there. They come in these ~1" wide pop-top tubes. I have a friend who brought some back because she liked the tube.]]>

I hadn't heard about that.. will have to look on the next trip. As far as I could find online, a lot of Americans were posting about how they have them imported 'cause they're safer for the kids. heheh. And a search for "Smarties" renders US Candy history sites where you'll find that is what they called those pill-like pastel candies we call Rockets.]]>
