I have no problems with your review, until I noted this ignorant sentence:

"...art is weak... using the same two panels across and four panels down on every single page"

Sorry to break it to you, but it is the best cartoonists that know not to fuck around with panel layouts: Pulitzer winning Maus, Jason, Chester Brown's critically acclaims Louis Reil, are prime examples. Even Chris Ware exploits the standardization of panels from time to time.

If you want flashy, wacky panel variation go read a superhero comic or something. At least that'll capture your attention more than reading the sordid details about Matt's personal life.]]>

Dude,

The story is just the story. There is no story. It's all set-up and subtext and commentary.

I think that you need to read it again - preferrably the finished hard covered edition of the book - and while you're reading it quit being so hard on yourself. See past what you're seeing on the page.

Matt's genius is in his humour and the contruction of his stories.]]>

Dont' be so hard with him!! His work his great, or at least uncommun, and in the middle of all this shit production, it's already a good point for him. I think also that if you aren't yoursefl a bit Joe Matt, you can not understand how brillant it is and how hard is the live of a complaining chronical unsatisfied masturbator!!]]>
