I just went to the Burrito place for the first time last week, and the fact that there's a second Starbucks just a block north of my house was news to me.]]>

What about the "Only"? One of the best beer selections I have ever seen and some of the most interesting people the Danforth has to offer.

Pizza? There is only one place... Danforth Pizza House. In between Jones and Donlands. Serious pizza made by a guy who has been doing it for close to 50 years! ]]>

Actually I'm not too fond of Mocha Mocha. I appreciate what they're trying to do but I don't think the food (or the coffee) are quite good enough... and it's a very weird space for long periods of sitting. Prefer a bit more atmo.]]>

The Danforth has several independently owned coffee shops...Iliada, 521, caffe frappe...and some of their customers sit in there for hours at a time. The coffee is also very good at Athens pastries. Haven't tried the Mocha Mocha cafe but it also looks promising as a cafe where you could stay a while.]]>

Thanks everyone for the notes! And MAJOR APOLOGIES for skipping Allen's - indeed the best burger in the city, made all the more amusing by the fact that it's only listed in the fine print on the menu, simply as "We also serve what many consider to be the world's finest hamburger." ]]>

Best alt-coffee is at Athens Pastries, 509 Danforth Avenue, (416) 463-5144. You say you don't like Greek food but I dare you to try the custard pastry and get back to me.

Also - Allen's! Right at Broadview, best burger in the city, 80 types of beer, end of story.

Oh, and "the cheese shop" is called Alex Farm ;)

I used to live on Jones back in 2000-2002. I miss the old hood. ]]>

For an independent coffee shop, check out the Riverdale Perk. It's hidden away south of Bain at 633 Logan.]]>

Great article! My girlfriend & I have been living in Leslieville a year ago so you get to know the father-east neglected stretch of the Danforth pretty well! BlogTO has been pretty good with easterly coverage (MILES better than that to-ist website!) but the disses still keep coming. I understand the West is more populated but it's been amazing living here. MOre east coverage please!! ]]>
