I mostly blow in and blow out to pick up dvds and books that I had requested... but I do miss hanging out there for an afternoon. The library I go to is the same one I have been going to since I was 7, and there is this one librarian who has been there the entire time.

There's another library in Coconut Grove that is in a historic building (very unusual for Miami, since most of our historic buildings have been blown away by hurricanes). It was built as the ladies club for the settlement of Coconut Grove back when MIami wasnt even on the map. ]]>

From age 2 - 102, the public library has something for everyone.
Thanks for writing about them... reminds me that I should go more offen. Libraries, they really are the Cornerstones of the Community.]]>

Great post! I love Toronto's libraries too ... I'm amazed we have 99 branches, and they all vary in size and personality, and how they're not afraid to offer all kinds of services, books, music, film, children's programs, and foreign language material. I almost never fail to find a book I need, whether it's a cheesy novel or an academic volume. The librarians are usually very friendly and helpful, and the service is so easy to use.

I'm really happy with some of the money that's obviously been put in recently ... my local branch, the tiny Jones, has definitely benefitted from some overhauls.

Yay TPL! ]]>

Loved reading this, especially since I truly am a library lover. In fact, the work I do right now is in direct contact with public libraries across the continent, so basically all I do all day is interact with the many possibilities libraries offer for interaction and engagement.

I've been to every branch in Toronto except for four, which I think is a pretty decent achievement. Sanderson is nice, but if you really want a good sci-fi collection, you're pretty good with staying with Lillian H Smith.]]>
