Thanks for the kind words :)

lily lo: Yes, the event ran late. I don't think I left until 12:45am, when it ended.

rob: Not sure which song Blue Man group did, but it was awesome!

greg: I've added more Red Spirt photos to the set :)

I enjoyed the performances in most part. Unfortunately, I was disappointed Alicia Keys did not actually perform, as the concert stated she would.

Also, the breaks between performers was too long, and I missed seeing The Barenaked Ladies sing. What time did they actually get on stage? I had to leave at 12. The hosts should have announced who will be performing next.

When I left, there was not many people left in the stands or on the floor. I am sure other people left, without seeing all the performances.

I'm not a fan of most of the entertainers that performed at the ceremony, but I applaud each and every one of them for their involvement.

Toward the end of The Barenaked Ladies (closing) set, they invited a guest singer on stage in jest. When our PM Stephen Harper failed to appear on stage, they suggested that he might have been busy buying a hot dog.

Hi Jules, kaisernetwork.org has this online video from the opening ceremonies.

This conference is like the Olympics of AIDS research. There are 3000 media covering the event, and over 20,000 people from around the world attending. It deserves the flash for a number of reasons: to get the average person to notice, and to treat the leaders in the fight against the epidemic to one heck of an opening ceremony.

Some people may see the opening gala as a lot of flash and no substance, but if you were there of if you watched the live webcast, you'd likely see that it's far more than flash.

Amazing shots Jerrold! If only all shows had lighting like that.

I've gotta say thought, I'm somewhat torn on how glamorized this conference is. Like, what the hell does the Blue Man Group have to do with fighting AIDS? This isn't suppose to be a publicity event. I guess anything that raises the profile of the issue is positive, but still...
