Yes we named him Matthew Matheson, it's called alliteration, poetic :-)

And I've met some nice people at his communal table, some people are social and some are not :-)

Apparently the bar goes on until 2AM. But we stopped buy last Saturday at around 11:45 and it was deserted. We didn't go in. I guess it is a restaurant and does not turn into a bar. Correct?

If you didn't want to sit and eat with a bunch of people wouldn't the long medieval banquet table be a tip off? Just a little friendly tap on the shoulder?

Too Noisy

I ate at Oddfellows the other day. The food was fine, neither outstanding nor bad. But the atmosphere was awful. Communal dining tables are a restaurant fad that will hopefully disappear soon. For our evening, we were seated next to a couple that spent our entire meal (they were present before we sat down, and remained when we had departed) reading a book out loud. Yes, the female half of the couple just spent the entire evening shouting a book at her male counterpart. Further down the table was a raucous party of six shouting at each other. The space has zero sound-dampening... Our party was unable to converse with each other, we simply gave it up after a while. My ears were still ringing slightly, as if I had been to a loud concert, when I went to sleep that night.

I can't imagine ever returning there, and it's a problem that would be largely mitigated just by having individual tables.
