I am indeed the same author of that profile, and I appreciate the point you make, wrapped as it was, in a bouquet of condescension. Having said that, a careful review of my profile of Studio reveals that I called Avery Hunsberger's business venture a "graphic design agency." While it's clear that Studio is heavily involved in marketing as well, the design orientation of the agency is quite different from what I understand goes on at The Department. And, for the record, I've encountered numerous galleries that share an intimate relationship with business ventures related to design (eg. Barbershp/Parishil, The Baitshop, Coupe Space, etc.) ]]>

Derek,

Coincidentally, when I first heard about Studio Gallery about a year ago - which is run by marketing and communications firm Studio Agency - that was the first time that I've heard of such an intimate relationship between a marketing business and a gallery space.

Are you the same Derek that reviewed Studio Gallery three months ago?

Do you read your own reviews?

At any rate, it's good to see other companies copying this business idea because overall it seems great for the creative community in Toronto!

I am delighted to see the positive association discussed about this space as an intimate relationship between a marketing business and a gallery space. Zach and Johanna are extraordinarily creative people, but they have also recognized that bills need to get paid - I am hoping that the depARTment can be a beacon for opportunities in any creative community, so creative people can earn a living with their work, maintaining their creative focus. ]]>
