Hey Christopher,
Thanks for the plug and comments re celestial noodlings on my flute as you ascended the stairs! Here's a pic of the moon through the telescopes:
http://urbanfluteproject.com/2009/04/06/musica-universalis/
...but, yeah, bummer about Saturn :( Here's a pic of the surface of Jupiter, though, to cheer you up: http://urbanfluteproject.com/2009/03/28/urban-flute-project-outreach-events/
lol
...hope you don't mind the links, oh well.
re Dunlap, yeah, I've been up there, even by bicycle (but not in the middle of the night by public transit: are you nuts??) and may have an in to get into the mothballed observatory...and I have wheels, so let's keep in touch...
That incredible observatory - which was originally smack-dab in the middle of farmers fields - was designed by the same guy who built the ROM (the original part, not the Crystal thing) and now is in the middle of Richmond Hill suburbia...and light pollution, which is the main reason they sold of the land-holding(?)
Apparently it has been leased by an amateur telescope club, so will remain operational, wich is great news!
Cheers,
J]]>

The Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, Toronto Centre has leased the David Dunlap Observatory from its new owner, and will be holding public observing sessions including the 74-inch telescope this summer. Stay tuned!

@Don Saar: Right, exactly.

@I'm so..: Don't feel bad, it was fun.

@drew: So that's the story. I had heard that there might have been issues with light pollution, but that it was still a valuable research center. It is a shame..]]>

The U of T has closed down the Observatory. Shame on U of T. They've sold off the land to a developer, and are currently in a court battle whether one of the last green spaces in Richmond Hill should be saved or if houses should be built. Shame on U of T. They've also issued a bull excuse that light pollution is affecting the telescope operations, when the telescope is able to look through it using it's various instruments. Shame on U of T!]]>
