I agree, the concrete debris on the shoreline doesn't seem to be well planned - unless it was intended reduce erosion.

I'm not sure what I think of a beach on the spit. There are so many watering holes around the city already - why add one to a significant wildlife area?]]>

This is a great place to cycle. I hesitate to reco the Spit as it's not crowded with bikes and I hope the secret doesn't get out too much.]]>

I'm a runner and have clocked many miles at the Leslie Spit. It is a great place to train without being interrupted with stoplights. Its very safe as more and more people are there, I love the new softer path and running up to the lighthouse. I especially love the hot dog vendor couple who are at the entranceway all through spring and summer - they always say hello. ]]>

For years I was one of the many taking a dump truck of construction demolition out to the end of the spit in horendous weather. Now I cycle it.
Biggest lost opportunity was the use of concrete debris with rebar sticking out as shoreline material making access to the water on the lake side shore a seriously hazardous experience. No reason for it, just short sighted planning. There should also be at least one shore access beach for use of some of the cleanest water in lake for swimming.]]>

I was there just a few days ago. It's a weird environment, raw in its beauty yet peaceful. No coffee shops, patios or other corporate infusion. Just a cool place to hang out from time to time.]]>

So that's the reason for the Leslie Spit... to erode the nudist beach near Hanlon's Point.
Next the butterflies' wing flapping on the spit is the cause of hurricanes.]]>

Unfortunately, the spit also stops the natural flow on lake currents from the Scarborough bluffs westward. With the spit there, it stops or deflects the sediment from reaching the Toronto islands, causing the islands to wear away. If the spit wasn't there the islands would have continued get more sediment from the bluffs.]]>
