So True, g-r. We should collect that garbage, and show us what we have collected, not just dispose of it. ]]>

Again we celebrate Earth Day..
Have people changed their habits from last year? I don't think they have. Just take a look at my blog Guildwood Village on the Lake. http://guildwood.blogspot.com
For many years volunteers have removed large amounts of trash from our lakes, rivers and ponds. And every day more items are thrown away and litter our city.
Trash doesn't fall from the sky..
It falls from people's hands.

I think the idea behind most Earth Day/Week events is to raise awareness with the hope that people will change their daily habits throughout the year.

GREENtuity for example, is not only raising funds for Toronto Green Community, it also trying to raise awareness about restaurants and other establishments that are more eco conscious. For example, I previously did not know that Burger Shoppe was different from Craft Burger/Hero/Gourmet in that the former uses only organic meat. I'll choose Burger Shoppe more often now...

But you are right - perhaps more needs to be done to encourage change throughout the year and not just for this one week.]]>

It's funny that you have a "Print this" button on an Earth Day Post. Wondering if your blog platform allows you to disable that functionality for a certain post! haha :)

Earth day is a nice gesture but it sends the secondary message that the rest of the year it's okay to not think about it. Better than nothing, I suppose.

But the Toronto Zoo? They may recycle animal poop but ripping animals out of their native habitats just so we can gawk at them is about as far from nature as I like to get. If you ask me, the zoo shouldn't even be on this list let alone being the first item.

Also, aside from a bunch of people talking and GREENtuity collecting money, is anyone actually *doing* something on Earth Day?]]>
