I've been to King Slice, Pizzaiolo, and Big Slice on Yonge Street which were all fantastic. I love thin crust pizza, and even though Pizzaiolo is a chain it's fantastic! The whole wheat meat is incredible. I also LOVED king slice, their sauce is amazing. You can really taste the garlic and other ingredients. I also like that they use fennel in their sauce, it makes it taste unique. I look forward to trying the other suggestions. ]]>

Why don't they ust go out and actually find the top 10 pizza slices in the city!? People have been arguing for years that this and that should be on the list, and others respond with "its voted by the people" but that obviously doesn't work. Pay some people to go out over the course of a few weeks to try a ton of slices using these lists as a starting point and form some sort of an opinion! then the arguments would at least have some substance. ]]>

LESSON FOR ALL THOSE WONDERING WHY THEIR NOT ON THE LIST:

Get the basics right
Crust & Sauce

Then make a great cheese pizza, a great pepperoni, a great veggie, a great deluxe. Get those down and your golden. Once you get the basic pizza's down, they you can get into the gourmet pizza's if you wish BUT too many places go straight for the gourmet, then after time to reduce cost they get cheaper ingerdients and it isn't the same, gourmet slice with low quality meat and vegtables...]]>

To each his own; I respect your devotion to the plain slice. This NYC-Toronto purity divide also extends to bagels (impossible to find a chocolate chip bagel or similar "travesties" in New York).

One last off-kilter pizza comment -- in New York, the price of a single-ride subway fare usually tracks closely to the price of a cheese slice (currently $2.25, going up to $2.50). What is the Toronto pizza slice-TTC index?

I'm also an exile in New York, and I find the pizza here much better (generalizing about both cities, of course) precicely because it's greasy and cheesy. But here's what I really appreciate about New York pizza compared to back home: the easy availability.

I can't tell you how many times I've walked into a T.O. pizza shop that didn't have a plain slice. Plain! It's like walking in to Tim Hortons and them not having chocolate glazed (granted, that's also happened). You're right - in New York they do like their plain pizza, which is fine by me. At least you can get them.

Big Slice is great but ONLY if you walk in; I tried to order from there, and wasn't able to get my pizza delivered to the door of my apartment because the driver didn't or couldn't figure out where the entrance was (I'll bet that they've delivered there before, too.) I'll be sticking with Pizzaiolo for delivery pizza from now on, instead of the crappy Pizza Pizza.

Also, I think that people should be listening to iSkyscraper's sage advice about not wanting Toronto pizza to be like New York pizza (he does live there, after all and would know of what he speaks.]]>

Perhaps BlogTO should begin putting disclaimers up along with the lists indicating that they were voted on by the public so that each Best Of post doesn't have 20 butt-hurt people claiming that the list is horribly wrong. It may also go a long way to getting more accurate lists if their votes were open for more than two or three days. That guarantees that the vote will be skewed by only daily visitors and whatever business can get the most fans out in a short time. And while they're at it, perhaps they could also explain if the 5-star rating system is meant to rate the restaurant or the article. That's never been clear either. ]]>

Wow Rick, you are a total rookie. I have never met anyone who likes North of Brooklyn (it's expensive and not very good) and Vinny Massimo's (which hasn't been good at any location since his Dad died, Fresca which is run by the old pizza makers in the o.g. location is way better and doesn't even make the list). You have Bintondo's at three which is great yet somehow San Francisco's slices don't make the list. You rate Big Slice on Yonge over Big Slice on St Claire (actually indefensible) and rate Vesuvio's (easily one of the best slices in the whole city) at 14. So ya, I can see that you value the locations over the actually quality of zza. I'm not even trolling, that's my real name, argue with me on facebook if you want but you need to stick to reviewing strip clubs cause you clearly don't know pizza.]]>

Seriously..No Fresh Slice? Originally Vinny Massimo's, that location MADE Massimo's and the guys working there MADE the pizza Massimo's made. Sure, th new Massimo's locations are great but the pizza just isn't what it used to be...because the guys who made the pizza now own and run Fresh Slice. It's freakin good.]]>

As an ex-pat exiled to New York for the past dozen years, please don't rush to make Toronto's pizza more like New York. The typical pizza here is disgusting, so floppy you can't hold it and so greasy it turns napkins and plates clear. They also hate toppings in New York, considering some kind of crime to like lots of stuff other than cheese on a pizza. So you end up with endless floppy greasy cheese pizza everywhere. (Rays, Original Rays, Famous Original Rays and Famous Rays are all terible, by the way).

All of the ones on this Toronto list look like they have managed to make the pizza fresh and tasty and loaded with toppings while still maintaining some kind of strength to the crust. Toronto should aim for its own blend of the New York and Chicago schools with some strong original Italian input - would you agree that's what these selections represent?]]>
