I am older and have held on to treasured clothes for decades! I have a trunk full. I have approached vintage stores with them and been totally insulted with what they offer! Hey! It's ME who paid for them, and ME who has schlooped them around for years, ME who has stored them, etc, and they offer 10% of what they will sell them for.( if that ) Give me 50% of retail and I'm happy!]]>

I am glad to see that Sub Rosa Vintage didn't make the cut, but I'd like to warn anyone who might be in the Kensington area to avoid it. While it initially looks like a well curated shop many of the items are stained and damaged, which you cannot tell under the halogen lighting. I bought something and as soon as I was outside realized that it was covered in water stains. When I brought the item back inside the stains were not visible.

For $60 I expect some better quality control and I told the owner so. She went A-P-E-S-H-I-T crazy. Yelled at me, banned me from the store for life, threatened to call the police if I didn't leave. Let me clear - I never raised my voice and was completely polite. I left on the verge of tears - I've never had someone get so mad so fast and treat me like that. It was disturbing. I honestly think she might have a mental problem.

I understand the no refunds, no exchanges policy, but I wasn't expecting her to stand behind and defend a damaged product. The fact that she did (and so rudely!) totally calls into question her entire collection. Be VERY careful when shopping there.

Sadly I am another person who had a fortune on consignment at Paperbag Princess. They never contacted me to say they were closing the shop, simply disappeared to the US. Elizabeth Mason claimed they contacted everyone to collect their merchandise, which is a total lie, as we have an electronic track of all incoming and outgoing phone calls.

So my Yves Saint Laurent leather skirts and other incredibly expensive stuff has disappeared. If someone is opening a file with the police, please post.

To be totally honest I find vintage in Toronto (meaning 1930-50's era clothing and accessories) to be rare and when found, to be completely overpriced.

Kensington is a good spot for 60's and up era clothing. Gadabout is probably the best for 1930-50's, but it is so hard to justify purchasing something when you know you can get something similar on etsy or ebay for half the price. I usually purchase online and browse in Toronto for fun.]]>

I recycle vintage clothing and have been adding several pieces and have some absolutely awesome ideas. I have about a dozen pieces ready to go and now I need a consignement shop to sell them. My pieces are unusual and all under $50 bucks, can someone point me in the right direction of where I can take the items I have created out of old clothing?

there's this new store in kensington market (it's on augusta across from the boat) called "pretty freedom". my girlfriend and i shop there and the owners are two very nice people!

thought i'd help them out and spread the word even though we secretly don't want anyone else to "discover" them haha.

check them out! they're quite entertaining online. http://prettyfreedom.com]]>

I can't believe that there is no mention of Flashback or Flashback 2!!! I have never been disappointed when I go to these 2 Kensington favorites. The staff is amazing, the selection of dresses - shoes- hats- jackets- you name it - is bar none the best in the city. I know for a fact that (from the staff) the owner actually sells to other vintage stores in TO. The selection at these 2 spots in varied and there is always new stuff coming in. I'm disappointed there was no mention of Flashback or Flashback 2 - major oversight.]]>

Marilyn at Rozaneh Vintage Clothing, Textiles, and Accessories has long been the best vintage seller in Toronto. Every time I go there, I find the most perfect thing ever, and usually wear it until it falls apart!
1207 Bloor, south side between Lansdowne and Dufferin. It's in a building with another vintage store, but I strongly recommend you hit Rozaneh first (go straight upstairs-second floor through the kitchen, I mean it!...you gotta get there before everyone else gets to the good stuff!)
She's open Wednesday to Sunday, 12-7...but even better, you can call for an appointment:416 534 8303]]>

BEWARE!!! DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT shop at this store or leave any merchandise with them. The owner is a thief who stole my brand new dress with the tags still on. I brought it in last year and kept calling to find out if it had sold and kept being told "No, it's still here". Finally, I decided to go in and collect it. They couldn't find it. Said it could have been transferred to L.A.!! I called the police and the story changed to "It was stolen in January." All lies!! Avoid this store like the plague. Elizabeth Mason, the owner, is a common criminal. Same thing happened to another person but I found out too late.]]>

Stella Luna is good, but right across the street is ...? (rats! I just can't think of the name)

I've been in Stella Luna many times, but I've bought more stuff across the street.

Either way: 501 streetcar and a ttc day pass will get you all the vintage love you can handle.]]>

Just something that peeves me, can we get clarification on which of these stores stock clothes for both sexes. I don't wanna make the trek somewhere to discover that there's only ladies clothes.

Also where are the best places for vintage men's suits? I have to admit that Value Village has some awesome ones if you have the patience to look through hundreds. Picked up a few last week for $10 and now i'm stylin' at work rocking the waistcoats.]]>

A lot of these stores are fantastic, but even better theres this new "by Appointment Only" vintage clothing place. I forget what its called, but I called to make an appointment and they had the best stuff at amazing prices. It runs out of this chicks condo. I think the number is 416-830-9223.]]>
