I ordered flowers for my mother's birthday last month from 416-florist. Last time I ordered flowers for somebody before, they came a day late, they were not fresh, and the staff advertised a different (higher) price for the bouquet I wanted. 416-florist took my order within 2 minutes, knowing every price and were generally very accommodating. The flowers were beautiful and my mother was happy. I will not give my business to anyone else!

Hi - just wanted to mention that yes Kay & Young's is a flower market and not a boutique florist, however, Chris, the new owner (since Nov 2011), has a very creative eye and can turn out some pretty funky/amazing arrangements when required. Good prices too - because it is a market and not a florist. You should check them out next time you need a specific arrangement, I think you'd be pleasantly surprised.

A few years ago I was planning my wedding, finishing my degree and starting a new career all at the same time. On top of all of that, I had NOOOO idea what colour scheme or what general theme I wanted. I seemed to like bits and pieces of different weddings but I was all over the place. As the day was getting closer and closer, I went to look for bridesmaid dresses and as luck would have it, I stumbled upon FLORIS, which is a few doors down from the dress shop. The window display lured me into the shop, I loved the antique feel and the original design. I hadn't even begun to think about flowers, and I assumed that such an exquisite little shop would be out of my price range.

Sarah, the shop owner, asked me if I needed any help with anything and I told her that I didn't want to waste her time because I still didn't have any idea of what I clearly wanted and I hadn't even put together a flower budget. We started to chat and 40 minutes later, I suddenly had my entire wedding figured out and her prices were more then reasonable!

Sarah pulled together antique lavender roses and beautiful cream and white flowers. She asked my sister and I if we had any flowers that were important to us. My sister remembered a flower that reminds us all of our grandmothers home in Greece. While the gardenia didn't match our arrangements, she snuck them into my bouquet and into my sisters, adding that personal touch. Our bouquets were stunning and the smell brought a touch of home and childhood memories to the day.

Sarah was such a big help, not only with the flowers, but showing me the antique lavender rose helped in deciding the colour of our bridesmaid dresses and the mens ties. I met with her on several occasions to discuss the wedding and how everything was coming along. On the day of my wedding, Sarah surprised me and hand delivered our bouquets. It was such a pleasant surprise, it showed that she really cared about not only her work but that I was really happy with everything. The flowers at the reception were breathtaking. Everyone loved the "romantic" feel of the decor.

Since my wedding I have moved abroad, if I ever need to have flowers delivered in the city of Toronto, I call Sarah at FLORIS. I know that she will do an excellent job and I am always happy with the price.

I highly recommend to anyone looking to have flowers delivered avoid 416 Florist!

Ordered flowers to be delivered on Friday before 2pm, called them at 2pm and they said the flowers were out for delivery. They delivered the flowers that evening to the wrong location, or so they said. We spoke to them on Monday and the awful manager Raye said there was nothing he could do even though it was his mistake. After quite a long argument he agreed to deliver the flowers on Tuesday ( two business days after they were suppose to be delivered) before 5pm. The flowers didn't come by 5pm on Tuesday and when I called back he continuously put me on hold and then hung up! I decided to stop by this location, which to my shock was actually a rug store with a tiny back room with about 3 plants of fake flowers. The manager/owner said again that he was wrong but refused a refund OR to give us the flowers!

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU USE ANY WHERE ELSE IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO ACTUALLY GET YOUR FLOWERS!!!

I've bought flowers from florists all over the city, good and bad, but since Sarah @ Floris put together my wedding over 4 years ago, I've gone nowhere else!

To this day I still get compliments on the arrangements from my wedding day, never had people seen such subtle and beautiful displays. If there is anything indicative of the service that Sarah and her team give, on my wedding day, after the ceremony and running through what seemed like a million photos, Sarah herself came to the reception with a fresh boutineer for me and made sure to take care of my bride's bouquet too before wishing us well and taking off again. It was such a small thing, but also such a truly thoughtful gesture.

Now when I need flowers, be it an unfortunate rushed viewing or funeral, a forgotten birthday or anniversary, or a planned out delivery - Sarah and Floris are my choice!

I'm sorry but this comment is absolutely ridiculous. Though I can not comment on your exact experience, it's very hard to believe that you were treated in this way, by Sara of all people. I've been getting incredible arrangements from the ladies at floris.ca for over a decade. I've also sent countless friends, family AND clients to them with confidence. Aside from the amazing works of art they create, everyone is always raving about the personalized service they receive. As for weddings; our entire wedding scheme was based off of Sara & Judy's arrangements. Sara also took the time to help with all the little details and offered her design consulting at NO CHARGE. We ended up paying less and getting much, much more. Our flower arrangements were so nice that they were featured in the Wedding Issue of Toronto Life.

So basically, GO TO FLORIS, get something awesome that will last for weeks. And look brilliant for having great style and taste in your flower selection. BEST FLORISTS IN TORONTO HANDS DOWN.

I tried Floris for my wedding after reading all these comments. Boy was it a COMPLETE SHOCK. "Sarah" was completely rude, dismissive and at times vulgar - when I told her my colour scheme for my wedding she said "You're joking right? No? Oh.. okay". I mean.. seriously?? Who says that?

When she showed me the bouquets they were standard bouquets you could get anywhere (except at more than 3x the price), and when I asked to change to other arrangements she simply said it wouldn't work with my location.

They ended up taking a deposit, and when I came to my senses and asked to cancel, they DEMANDED a cancellation fee because they had already started "prepping" (even though the wedding was still weeks away!!). They literally brought me to tears and my husband was absolutely fuming at how Sarah completely ruined my emotions and nearly ruined the wedding itself.

Basically, DON'T GO TO FLORIS. The flowers may look nice but they are the WORST FLORISTS you'll ever meet.

The best shop in town, Floris. Hands down the service that Sarah and her team provide are nothing but first class. Our wedding in May '12 was held at the Fairmont Royal York and with that type of a venue we had to have the best of the best and Floris delivered. Our appointments with Sarah were always a pleasure her knowledge and sense of style made us fell 100% comfortable and we let her run with it. With a provided colour pallet and a few special requirements the finished product that Sarah and Floris executed was one to remember. The arrangements and setup at our ceremony were nothing but breathtaking and created the most romantic atmosphere you would expect on your wedding day. The reception set up was simply a jaw dropper and her choice of flowers and arrangements showed us we made the right choice in a florist.

As the Mother-of-the Bride,Floris was my florist of choice for my daughter's recent late summer wedding.I was aiming for a simple, soft and romantic backdrop for this special occasion. As I reside in Oakville,Ontario, I relied on the recommendation of my sister in Toronto who had used Floris in the past for her home and for gifts. My sister has impeccable taste! It was a treat to work with Floris' Sarah Bayat. Sarah proved to be knowledgeable and helpful as she assisted me in selecting flower type, colour and arrangements. Our guests were wowed by the stunning floral arrangements and we received a great deal of positive feedback. In particular, the distinctive bride's bouquet and groom's boutineer were just lovely and will undoubtedly enhance their photographs. Thanks again to Sarah and Floris for creating a very beautiful memory for family and guests!

I find that there are basically 2 kinds of florists out there. Traditional flower shops that carry lots of "ordinary" market type flowers and generally design in baskets and ginger vases.
Then there's boutique flower shops that use interesting and unique seasonal flower varieties and vases. A few of the "Best of" shops on the BlogTO list are more keeping the the traditional style of flowers that makes me think of my grandmother's flowers. Especially her Christmas centrepiece of red and white carnations with pine and holly with a green candle in the centre.
Not really keen on that style of arrangement.

When I shop for flowers, I look for unique and current floral designs, beautiful interesting blooms and flower varieties, freshness, flower delivery, knowledge and of course great service. I've been able to tackle part of that list with some good florists that I've tried across the city. After shopping around and trying different shops that came recommended by friends, colleagues and online, I can say that it's very hard to find a shop that can deliver ALL these factors that I demand in a florist. I turned to this blog last year and took the time to read the reviews and recommendations. I gave a few a go, and am so pleased to say that I finally found my florist for LIFE!

I've been using the girls at Floris for a little over a year and they constantly surpass my expectations. They've been in business for a long time so they've really mastered their craft. It's a mother and daughter so there's this beautiful classic elegance meets young & funky vibe in their designs. They're big on carrying tons of imported as well as local floral like every colour peony you could imagine, a rainbow of dahlias during the summer, hydrangeas of all sorts and colours, exquisite orchids that I've never seen anywhere else... and masses of interesting flowers depending on the season. They carry cool potted plants like orchids, modern plants and tons of vases and containers, so there's lots to choose from when you need an interesting gift. I order all my company flowers for corporate events and functions through them (sometime pretty last minute and they always manage to pull off flower miracles!). I often don't even see the flowers that I order by phone for clients, but I always receive the most rave reviews. I'm looking forward to seeing what amazing floral delights they're going to design for my daughter's wedding this September!

Would highly HIGHLY reccomend Floris. They are the most talented, helpful and skilled ladies who truly love their gorgeous craft.

I visited different flower shops in GTA and found one of the best from my point of view. Their name is Fleurever (very romantic name). This flower shop located in Thornhill, Yonge & Steeles. This store doesn't run for the money and that is why they have fresh flowers always. Everyday they have at least 10 ($35-100) different arrangement in one of their 3 walking coolers. These arrangement are made not for the pre-orders but for regular retail. I visit them at least once a week and can tell you it is real boutique. If you are waiting for your flowers you can relax seating on the nice love chair and watching some movies about flowers. Fleurever is a kingdom of the flowers. Highly recommend.

Sorry I can't help with where to go for wedding flowers in Toronto but perhaps I can help others avoid much unhappiness by most definitely not recommending Emblem Flowers. After the fact, they admitted that they knew our boutonierres were a disaster the day before the wedding but did not call us to give us time to find proper substitutes. Instead they sent poor substitutes and failed to contact us directly on or after the wedding day. The partial refund they offered will not cover the cost of photo-shopping the wedding pics.

I have used their services and was very disappointed! The ordered arrived a day late, and it wasn't even the right order. We ordered a peace lily plant, the plant arrived without any lilies which defeated the whole purpose of ordering a peace lily plant.
It might be cheaper, but what's the point of sending someone flowers when they don't get it at the right time and when it finally arrives, it's not what you paid for.

I just got a really good quote from a company called We Are Knot Just Flowers T.O. and they'll not only do the flowers for my wedding but the linens and stemware as well. I've searched on line to see if there are any reviews on the company and there are none so I was wondering if anyone has used them, is going to use them or knows someone who has and are they good or not. Both my fiancee and I got a good vice from Sandra, the owner, but her office seemed a bit sketch, so that's why we're a little hesitant to commit to her... Any info??

My wedding was this past summer and I believe that i found the most incredible florist. Reed from East of Eliza made the most stunning flower arrangements that were exactly true to the vision I had. She had the extensive task of decorating the Boiler House restaurant, and it turned out better than I could have ever imagined. If you are looking for a florist who is PURE quality and ZERO PRETENSIOUSNESS, Reed is the person for you. The best advice I can give you is TRUST her taste, she will deliver amazing results. Don't be worried by her eccentricities - they are a mark of her creativity and astuteness as an artist. I wish I could post pictures here – you would see what I mean.

I live at Eglinton & Roehampton and there are basically no nice florists in the neighbourhood. I used to go to C Glass but they closed down a couple of years ago. You basically have to shop a bit north or south to find someone decent. Floris on Avenue Road: 416-222-8080 (they're about 10 mins to Yonge & Eg) and Florigin: 416-935-0130 at Yonge & Balmoral are very good.

I use Floris a lot becuase they can get last minute deliveries out in a jif and I have a corporate account with them that makes ordering a breeze.
Good luck

I went to Floris for my engagement and wedding flowers and I couldn't be happier with the results. The owners are a mother daughter team and Sarah (the daughter) was amazing.. She's like a real life flower wikipedia! I booked a consultation with her and she was so much more helpful and easy going than the other 2 places that I went to to talk wedding flowers. It felt like I was talking to a friend about my wedding rather than going through a transaction. My wedding was 180 guests at The Windsor Arms and aside from my dress, the flowers were my favorite part! She works with all the different venues so she was really familiar with the space and what colours & look worked well in the ballroom. I like that they're not a studio but a retail floral boutique so their fridge was always packed with unusual and exquisite flowers every time I went to her store. I had a consultation with a studio because my wedding planner works with one, but looking at pictures wasn't enough for me. Sarah took the time to pull different things from her fridge and when it came to making me a sample, I LOVED what she came up with. She created low tight arrangements of antique hydrangeas, dahlias, antique roses and french tulips that were just spectacular. And I just LOVED my bouquet of all mokara orchids! Super friendly ladies and I continue to use them for my everyday flower deliveries personally and for work. I HIGHLY recommend the ladies at Floris :)

I have worked as a freelance floral designer in some of the more "boutique" floral design shops & studios in both Toronto and New York and am pretty familiar with most of the florists and floral designers in the city. For the most part, the top 10 Florists featured are boutique florists (not Kay & Young - this is a flower market). This basically means that these are higher style florists that do contemporary/modern arrangements using higher quality and out-of-the-ordinary florals, foliage and containers. Their style is often much more unique, trendy and exquisite. Now just because a florist has been in the biz for a very long time it doesn't mean they offer superior flowers for a shop that's been around just a few years. In fact, a shop that's been open for 15+ years has often changed ownership several times, and more often they stick to old methods and traditional flower styles and types of flowers (think a basket or ginger vase arrangement which may include leather leaf ferns, carn, mums, petal-stripped roses, baby's breath, snapdragons, glads and/or daisies. This isn't 1985 people... flowers have come a long way but unfortunately a lot of the older shops haven't adapted. And examples of shops that I would put in this group certainly include previous suggestions such as 416-Florist, Ital, Canadiana, Aprile & Martins the Flower people. These aren't Florists that even come close to the level of design, quality and style that most of the shops that made the top-10 are at. That being said... I don't agree with all of the choices (Demarco-Perpich have really gone down hill since ownership changed). Also, some shops are grossly overpriced. Such as Lidia's Fiori, Fresh, Teatro Verde, Rosedale Flowers & Emblem to name a few). They all do gorge work but charge an absolute fortune for high-end work that are mirrored by a lot of talented younger shops that are much more reasonable.

That being said, I've heard fabulous things about Floris (couldn't find a website, but they are listed at 1670 Avenue Rd 416-787-7111). I've heard they do very high-end comparable to the aforementioned shops. A friend of mine uses them regularly and had her (fabulously stylish) wedding done by them. I have to say, that as someone from the trade... I was truly blown away. I'd never seen yellow peonies before... spectacular! Their designs were opulent, original and the quality of the blooms were very evident to someone that's worked around flowers. I've also seen beautiful work come out of Thriving Metropolis (uber modern) and East of Eliza on Gerrard.

I would strongly urge you never to buy flowers from Demarco-Perpich. I actually wonder if you used their services before listing them as one of the "best" flower shops in Toronto.

I received a very expensive boquet of flowers ($197 to be exact) from my husband for Valentine's Day. Half of them are dead four days after I received them. Not to mention, this boquet did not resemble the product they were showing on their website. The picture they showed had huge Calla Lilies and lots of Roses and a little filler. What I got was 6 miniature calla lilies (and I do mean mini) , 6 small roses and lots of filler. I don't know how they justify charging almost $200 for this boquet and not even have them last for 1 week!

This is not the first bad boquet I have received from them either. We actually used to buy from them regularly but stopped after our last bad exchange with them. I don't know why my husband thought to try them again but I assure you he will never darken their door again!

I was looking to send flowers and found a place on line called bloomsnroses. They had advertised that they had 'free shipping' and after they told me the price of my order, I was a little shocked and called them back. In order to get free shipping I would have had to order from their website and if I wanted to cancel I would have to pay $29.95 and send them a fax stating that I would pay that amount. In other words I was really taken advantage of. I know you are looking for great places but this is indeed the WORST place.
