Hot or not? Elmer Olsen models

Posted by Briony / July 27, 2010

Elmer OlsenEvery year, modeling maestro Elmer Olsen shows off his latest crop of catwalkers to the world. I was a fan of last year's Bootcamp 2 Bigtime showcase, which included some ethereal man-sprites, andro-babes, and your usual assortment of angular-lovely stick creatures.

Elmer OlsenI've a real fondness for models: they really bring clothes to life. This year, the ensembles were provided by local design team Greta Constantine; I was more stoked on the male styling (some nice tee layering there, boys!), and less so about the red dresses, which were bright enough to distract from the models' faces.

Elmer OlsenAll in all, I found last year's crop to be superior in variety (there was both brawny dudes and skinny weirdies, plus a nice variety of ladies), although this go 'round--held again at club This Is London--there was a stand-out or two, like the handful of sexy chicks who brought to mind the tawny tiger-like beauties of South America.

Elmer OlsenAh, well, there's always next time: each Bootcamp brings the year's current model(s). That's the great thing about fashion: there's always another fabulous face, right around the corner.

Hot. Too many fatties in Toronto.

In my opinion, the female models would look more stunning if they weren't clad in less than mediocre blood orange garb. Which, is probably why the men look better in my eyes with their unruly hair and layered tees.

Models in general aren't hot but that's just me.
Average/normal girls FTW.

Average is *nice*. Average is getting less and less nice as the years go by.

This is the dumbest article I've ever read. Can I get a refund on my time, please?

"they really bring clothes to life."

I'm sorry, but these models all look HALF-DEAD!! Except maybe for the woman on the bottom right. They look wan, bored, over-tired, maybe hungry? But certainly not ALIVE, and nor do the clothes look alive, although I understand that they aren't modeling these particular outfits. Maybe we need video of them walking to see the clothing "live".

Totally agree with you SMEG

What a waste of words...

True the first comment. Toronto's full of fat and out of shape people. I guess it's a lifestyle issue too much work, unhealthy eating, lack of exercise.

NOT. Cruel and unusual punishment. What did we do to deserve this?

I would agree as well. Was in Montreal a few weeks ago and while Toronto has pretty much caught up to them in terms of everything stylish and cool (and in many ways surpassed them) over the past 5 years, the one difference I noticed wasn't that the people were more stylish or fashionable in Montreal (as they used to be), but the men and particularly the women were in much better shape. I didn't see one tube dress that didn't have a rockin' body making up for its horrible-ness like you see in Toronto all the time. We all need to get into better shape (if just for our tax base!).

Uh, or, you know, Toronto has some fat people....just like every other place in the world. Because like tall people, short people, and skinny people, we are everywhere. There aren't "too many" of us, because human genetic diversity isn't driven by temporal cultural norms, or, more specifically, what society has taught you to find 'hawt'.
keven / July 27, 2010 at 12:51 pm

Don't blame genes for being fat. That is total bs and only accounts for a VERY SMALL number of fat people.

The World Health Organisation's report on Obesity (2000) concluded that: "while it is possible that single or multiple gene effects may cause overweight and obesity directly, and indeed do so in some individuals, this does not appear to be the case in the majority of people."

The girl in the third picture looks like a walking skull. Mess up her hair and put some fake blood on her and she could pass for a zombie.

Oh yeah, Toronto does have a lot of lardy people - both women and men. I am sorry but that is a fact. Coming from Europe (although it is changing there as well) people are certainly not overweight. It is to do with food. Do not eat less, but eat healthier. And please just because you are fat doesn't mean it's healthy to be fat. And it has nothing to do with diversity. Please. Next thing is that it will not be allowed to speak of fat people.

These girls do have bored look and a little smile wouldn't hurt (and awful makeup around the eyes), but they are not skinny - they look about what the average girl should look like.

I completely understand that finance and time are huge factors in a person's weight. Being poor or VERY busy are legit reasons. That does still leave a pretty significant percent of the population that have neither the finance or time problems. Middle class/ richies need to hit the gym.

Chloe, that is exactly why they bring the clothes to life. The models look so dead themselves, that even the most mundane things shimmer with liveliness in comparison!

And simuls, you're dead on with that sentiment. I was in Montreal at the beginning of June, and pretty much the majority of people I'd pass were in good shape. Call me an ass, but Toronto's general fatness is unacceptable.

Their not 'high fashion' models thats for sure; theres nothing 'interesting' about them, they look normal.

As a young model myself, I feel like the title of this article, "Hot or not?" is hardly appropriate. The majority of the girls at bootcamp this year were under the age of 18, with a solid group being only 16 years of age. Yes, as models, the industry in which we are employed is based upon a physical exterior, but, really? 'Hot'? A poor choice of words in my mind.

Elmer Olsen is known for having weirder looking models that are hardly hot but just stick figures really. They are hangars for clothes with a head essentially and they all look very heroin chic. Bring back the 90s when the models were actually hot!!!

I went to that exact event. It was fun, i recognize some of the models that are in these pictures. In my opinion, I think the pictures don't do them justice, They all looked way hotter in real life! :)

Good for these models who pay attention to what they eat and exercise to keep healthy and in shape. Elmer Olsen is a wonderful man who always keeps the health of his girls at heart. Canada is getting very overweight in a very short amount of time. These models are living very healthily and should be praised for their continuous effort to keep up with this very competitive industry. Toronto should wake up and start exercising more. Ever been to italy? There is not one fat person around- and they eat a diet consisting of cheese, pasta, pizza and croisants. EXERCISE FOR GODS SAKE TORONTONIANS
