Fashion & Style
Street Style: Front Street
Name: Jessica
Occupation: Tattoo artist (apprentice)
My style: I'm a chameleon. I dress differently every day. I love bright colours, mixed in with black.
Favourite item: My black leather boots. I love boots and I think they can make any outfit look great.
Skirt: It's tie-dye. I love tie-dye. I love anything from the '60s.
Purse: It's a Roxy purse my mom got me from California. It's got nice, bright pink hearts on it, so it kind of goes with the skirt.
Name: Sophie
Occupation: Executive assistant
My style: It's my day off, so I pick colourful things - non-office wear. I like the tights right now, with the boots.
Favourite item: I love this scarf. I've had it for six years. It's just so colourful, and it can also be worn as a shawl.
Name: Marjorie
Occupation: Jewellery designer/St. Lawrence Market vendor
My style: I like lots of colour, and scarves with a lot of drama.
Favourite item: I really love this purse. It's from Peru. It's hand-woven. I got it on Queen Street. I love the colours, and I love all the flowers on them. It fits my personality.
Hat: It's from another vendor at the St. Lawrence Market. She sells hats and knitted necklaces, so I got one of these from her.
Name: Elizabeth
Occupation: Pharmacist
My style: I like to dress casually most of the time.
Favourite item: My coat. I bought it in Yorkville a couple of years ago. I usually don't wear red - I prefer blacks or dark colours - but I just happened to be walking by, and it caught my eye.
Name: Jessica
Occupation: Fashion designer
My style: I like to be comfortable, but definitely have a lot of structure to what I'm wearing. I wear a lot of my own clothes as well.
Favourite item: My shoes. I ordered them from Sweden. I just got them in the mail a couple of weeks ago. The brand is Acne.
Name: Nika
Occupation: Graphic designer
My style: I like to mix things. You can mix everything these days, so I go to second-hand shops, but also to normal shops.
Favourite item: The leg warmers. I love the colour, and they're warm - perfect for Toronto.
Scarf: My little sister made it.
Name: Jemima
Occupation: Acting student
My style: I'm a skirt and dress kind of girl. I like wearing boots, scarves, and I like dressing up.
Favourite item: These boots, because they're my first pair of Fryes - the best boots in the world!
Scarf: My brother gave me this scarf. He brought it back from Peru.
Name: Anna
Occupation: Financial analyst
My style: I like to wear whatever my body feels free in.
Favourite item: My hat, because it's cute (laughs).
Bag: I got it two years ago from China. It's not too classical, and it's not too casual. It's something in between, which I like.

Stop this blogTO! This is the stupidest piece ever published! Well that and Giambrone wanting to be mayor...
Best edition, ever!
Everyone here looks good - it's very easy to slip into black/white/shades of gray outfits in the "winter", but all of these folks have brightened up their outfits with nice, complementary colours!
Maybe Theo R's eye is improving.
Way to go BlogTO! Great post! Love it!
I think this is the best "Street Scene" yet. All the ladies look appropriately dressed and stylish. @EricM: dude, don't hate, write your own blog!
I too am digging this Street Style - variety once again!
Majorie Fail.
“D-FENCE!” clap, clap “D-FENCE!” clap, clap.
it's alright. EricM was just hoping to see some pics of dudes. he's upset that it's only beautiful ladies.
Jessica and Sophie, SCHWING!!!
Good to see some great colours and layering this time!
The thing is, this is like writing a review about hamburgers. If its McDonald's (and a lot of the fashion here is) you only really need five words: "Well, at least its food." That may be questionable though. Even if it is a trendy place and its a Wagyu (Kobe beef) burger it doesn't change the fact its still a burger trying really hard to be different. How about something about the designers here in the city? Do any of these people design their own stuff? That would be interesting. @gunnerson Thanks for providing the substance of a Big Mac.
I always look forward to Street Style. It's light hearted fun. EricM, why all the hate...you don't like, don't click.
I agree that this is a really good entry. It would be nice to see some guys in the mix, though maybe Theo is planning an all-male Street Style soon? :)
Boots & tights!
Man...such a novel concept.
lol OMG! I hate to say it and I really hope you have a better day EricM because you seem grumpy, but you are totally on! It is like a bad Gap add or over trendy Queen W. hehe Care to grab some sushi sometime ;)
is this women's week? where are the Men?
.how do i get in touch with sofie n' jessica?
boring
horrible
Fair enough. I wold have just said its a shity piece.
Ilike these posts (and if the naysayers hate em' why not go elsewhere?), though sometimes I crave more variety - different ages; different parts of town. Hey why not do a couples' style post? I dare you to track me and my beau down ... We have variety and style to boot!
Great stuff! But throw in some men's style for once, you chauvinist prick!
Nika and Jemima -- you rock my world!
Haha oh man almost equal parts adoration and hatred so far this time, BlogTO posters! This is probably the most positive reaction I've ever seen you guys to have!
I mean, it's fine to dislike something, but can't we at least dislike it like civil adults? I'll never understand what motivates somebody to write 'horrible' anonymously and then vanish. What are you trying to accomplish?
Anyway, well done again Theo. Fond of Jessica's look. Looking forward to another edition.
when was the last time I heard SCHWING?
thanks for the laugh!
Blah, Blah. Horrible. ;) That part M mean though.
Wow Jessica is hot.
Anna is cute too.
Right...to those who thing the girls are cute...They are 14...that is pretty creepy. Almost as creepy as those folks who think this is a smart and well written piece. Don't we have a government to kick out in Ottawa at the nearest chance? There 'ya go Patrick on your hate vs. like scale. :)
I had no idea there were financial analysts, graphic, jewelry and fashion designers, pharmacists, tattoo artists and executive students who were also only 14. Well done, young ladies!
Jemima!
That is because with the exception of the Financial Analysts and Pharmacists there aren't! Ahh I miss high school...
wait a second...Theo r?!? Is this your game? Get any numbers?
14? I think you need to get your eyes checked.
thank you for getting out of the malls and back onto the street - real(er) people and not some h&m cut-outs are fine by me.
funny how the haters keep spouting off about how blogto should stop this feature when week in and week out it is one of the most commented on features.
Hate the Uggs but the Fryes are beautiful as is the scarf Jemima.
I like that this sample is of actual people you would see in this neighbourhood. That sort of realistic take on "street style" still has value I think, as much as we all love The Sartorialist etc. etc. for creative and stimulating eye candy.
Keep it real.
worst entry yet , they just stole the cloths of a store display , no originality at all
IT IS WINTER!!! what do you expect these people to be wearing?! of course they're wearing BOOTS and JACKETS and TIGHTS?
I think a "BlogTO readers style" would be interesting. Then maybe all the naysayers would give it a rest.
Nicely done. We've got some colour happening here (helps that it's been unseasonably warm so it's not all covered up), some flair (style!) and a nice looking bunch of people to boot.
Hmm haters...well sorry. I am one. This is shit.
To me, nobody in these photographs has style or is wearing any sort of fashion. These are just people in clothes.
I am glad they don't take a picture of me on this site I would fail really bad.
nice sharp photos, but really? could the styles get any less original?
Sophie, that outfit is smashing. Will you mary me?
Jessica just tattoed her way onto my heart.
Thank Heaven for pretty girls.
Nika, i think i fell in love with you.
... Is this honestly the best street style Toronto has? I mean this is almost embarrassing. I've been following the street style section for a while and everything is just so bloody mundane. I mean I know Toronto is no New York or Paris but I mean come on every other human being dresses like this... there is nothing original or unique or great in any of these outfits... Those coats are all so boring, the pants, the tights, the shoes! Come on Toronto is not so lame dressed as this, this would make the likes of The Sartorialist cringe.
this IS toronto
Keep in mind that these people are chosen by a photographer. The author/ photographer of these articles said last week that he is trying to capture just random people on the street to show a range of style, rather than searching out the best dressed. Perhaps someone else with a different approach would be looking for people dressed more fashionably, like those featured in The Sartorialist.
We need someone to start up our own Sartorialist-type blog here in TO! People are obviously into it, and I do believe that we have enough stylish people to fill a blog like that. Sooooo...... any takers?
hi...this is jessica...would just like to clear up that i am NOT 14....hah...though i suppose ill take the complement and look forward to aging graciously ...
and damn...tattooing this young... I SURE AM GOOD :D
and honestly...to all the people freaking out about the fact that this blog entry doesn't resemble that of an article in vogue...keep in mind that none of these people left their houses TRYING to look their best...Nor did they have any idea that they would make it on the front page of blogto...
SO...calm yourselves. why do you bother to look at street style when its so clearly below your level of prestige....YOU are the ones wasting your own time.
keep the negative thoughts to yourself...the world is downer enough as it i. THANKS !
LR - Yes, I've been doing that for some time now, I post a Toronto Street Style story every Tuesday on my blog.
Hi Jessica,
Good luck with the tattooing, and keep giving 'em hell! Too many young women and men get caught up in the opinions of others; ultimately, what matters is what you think.
In the immortal words of Canadian Nellie McClung: "Never retreat, never explain, never apologize, get the thing done and let them howl."
Uggs are the WORST!! Why is it usually asian or trashy white girls who wear them?(*not offence to either, just an observation) Don't women realize they have NO ankle support? Besides, like rain boots, they're a FAD that just wont go away. Be original people! Not followers. Cheers! :)

While I do find Street Style entertaining, I'm always hoping you'll find people in Toronto with styles like you'd see on http://fuckyeahstreetstyle.tumblr.com
I kind of love Sophie's look, even though her dress/tunic is kinda short for me. Rock those colours and textures! It's kind of hard to mix pink/red/purple without looking like a six-year-old, but she does a good job.
Yes, some of these people DO design their own clothing. Nice reading, friend. Check Jessica again.
Dude, I guess you missed all the parts where people here bought things from overseas (most of them mail-ordered something, some brand name, some hand/local-made), or make their own clothing (Jessica), or are wearing handmade gifts (Nika)? Jeez.
Jemima is a babe.
