Fashion & Style
Street Style: Bloor & Spadina
Name: Yin
Occupation: Political science student
My style: Dramatic, colourful.
Favourite item: These red boots.
Gloves: They're from China, from one of my friends. He knew that I'd be coming to Toronto, and he said, "It's very cold," so he gave me them.
Name: Hillary
Occupation: Fashion design student
My style: Right now, "Boxing Day" (laughs). But usually, high fashion/comfortable.
Favourite item: I love my hat. I got it in Italy and it's just the warmest thing ever. I wear it every day.
Name: Mona
Occupation: Fashion student
My style: I try not to look at the fashion magazines, or try to get it from other people. The less you look at people, the more you use your own imagination.
Favourite item: The scarf (on my head), because my hair was crazy today. I just wrap it around to control it.
Bag: I got it from back home - from Iran.
Names: Kallvis and Shirley
Occupation (Kallvis): Fashion design student
Occupation (Shirley): Financial management student
My style (Kallvis): Skinny pants tucked into the boots - it's really "in" right now.
My style (Shirley): Simple, comfortable.
Favourite item (Kallvis): I like the accessory on my pants, and I like the necklace. Without them, everything would look simple - but with them, it looks like something's happening.
Favourite item (Shirley): My jacket. I love the fur. It feels really good, and it's really comfy.
Name: Noriko
Occupation: Graphic designer
My style: It's "me." I especially love purple and black.
Boots: I usually don't wear these boots. Before I came to Toronto (from Japan), I thought Toronto would have a lot of snow, but...
Name: Alison
Occupation: Consultant
My style: Contemporary.
Favourite item: My purse. It's simple, but trendy.
Name: Shiri
Occupation: I'm a student. I'm doing a master's in speech and language pathology.
My style: Comfy, but elegant.
Favourite item: These boots. They keep me dry and warm - and they're stylish - so I like them.
Name: Marija
Occupation: Microbiology student
My style: Classic - usually with one or two accents that really make everything pop.
Favourite item: My leg warmers, because my mom just got me them for Christmas.

If you'd like to see more street style - I just posted 9 amazing looks. This time I took photos of fashionable people walking down Yorkville St., hope you like it :)
i think the majority of us are guilty of the black on black on boring during winter.
i would love to see a variation on striped/checkered/all scarves this year, wrap that shit different, get sharia on yer mug.
but i am in love with the boldness and "yea it's dead" affront of girls in their furred out hunter hats (hillary-esque).
sexy.
Come on!
now it's horribly boring.
hillary - "high fashion/comfortable"?? when do those two words every go together. also, no one cares your hat is from italy. shut up.
mona- has cool scarves. and badass boots.
kallvis - not a real name. also, a fashion student who is saying his "skinny pants tucked into boot are really 'in' right now"?? epic fail. choose something else to study.
blogTO please make next week better. this is becoming reduntant and irrelevant.

And Kallvis dresses like a whore. Seriously dude, aren't you cold?

Not bad looks though, despite the standard-issue moans from some of the peanut gallery here (who I am sure never leave the house wearing anything less than sheer artistry).
noriko...looks like a chilly eggplant on stilts
"kallvis"...wtf kind of name is that??? bet his nipples are hard as rocks in december weather. what a db.
yin...so many colours and patterns I feel a seizure coming on...
glam up, blogto. hogtown has lots better to offer.
At least provide links to larger versions.
some of these are pretty good. i love monas grey circle scarf. i'd like to know where its from.
kallvis's shirt is god awful. especially for this time of year. absolutely zero fashion/common sense.
yes to yins red boots. no to marijas legwarmers.
I don't believe that BlogTO's "street style" installment is at all representative of what Toronto has to offer. Week after we I return, hoping for better but are tired of seeing the same old mainstream look.
A perfect example is Alison. Her favourite item: "[Her] purse. It's simple, but trendy".
Trendy: of, in, or pertaining to the latest fad or style. I think we can all agree, a trip to H&M can equip anyone with the latest trends.
True style doesn't conform to such social norms. But these people clearly do.
Example, Kallvis. His style: Skinny pants tucked into the boots. His motive: "it's really 'in' right now".
A street style blog should offer individuals who have their own unique style a chance to be seen by others. When I say unique, I mean different from what the latest trend might be. BlogTO just doesn't provide this. Could it be that the "eyes" of Street Style, has no fashion sense?
Kallvis and Shirley need help. Kallvis, come on, even Billy Idol stopped dressing like that in 1991 and it was far too late - the damage was done and his career never recovered.
Shirley, worn jeans are only cool if they look like you may have worn them down yourself, naturally. So, unless you were (naturally) dragged behind a car for 27 minutes my guess would be you bought them like that. Tacky.
