Boobs (Lots of 'Em) at Boobalicious

Posted by Briony / October 20, 2009

BoobyliciousAs October rolls on, with it comes the long, pink parade of the usual breast cancer fundraisers. And, this year, I headed to Boobalicious. But this ain't no usual party, thank god.

Black Wool agency head Louie Manzo started the event eight years ago to honour his mother and a friend and has so far raised $50,000 for breast cancer research.

The best part?

All the actual boobs on display, courtesy of burlesque troops Skin Tight Outta Sight and Fun Buns, along with Baby Steinberg's skimpy DIY-looking ensembles, and Brazilian dancers.

And can't we all agree that we like boobs? Here's to breasts bared for a cause.

Men, women, gay, straight, who doesn't love breasts.

Now prostates, that is a completely other story. Where is the Walk for the Cure on that one?

Prostate cancer should be shunned to the far corners of society. I mean, prostates don't jiggle, they're up men's hairy asses and it's the same place guys POO from.

How are you supposed to make a fashion show out of that?

Apparently this event has been going on for 8 years now?!? How is it that this was the first year that I heard about it? Hands down, one of the best events I've ever been to! I'll never miss another one of these. Hats (or bras) off to the Boobalicious organizers and all those that helped put this event together. You did an amazing job and you'll definitely see me next year! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.

They need more Man-Boobs! men can get breast cancer too! I'm a little tired of using sex to raise awareness. Sure it's a great marketing tool:sex sells but in our oversexed media life, do wee need more? Should we all use PETA's advertising model for good causes? why isn't there a Penislicious raising awareness for prostate cancer? I prefer classier ways to raise awareness such as The 2009 White Cashmere Collection// Far classier, far more elegant than dangling breasts stumbling around on stage.

Be rest assured, we don't serve up sex to raise awareness, we serve up sex to raise the temperature. We've only ever promised a "touch" of class and a "big" dash of trash - it's just the way we like it and will only ever serve up BOOBALICIOUS in that light - next years event will deliver the man-boobs you are after - promise. There are many fantastic organizations and event builders looking to create the special environment for everyone to give back, i'm sure there is one that is just right for everyone and they need the support of many - i'd like to think we put the FUN in Fundraising. Thanks to all that came out to support - if you'd like to make a difference donate online today www.boobalicious.ca check back for the full gallery over the weekend.

I don't see a point in condescending how this event decided to raise money for a good cause. To each his/her own. If you prefer to attend a more sex-free event (see also: stale) to raise awareness, then I sincerely encourage one to do so. If you wish there to be a Penislicious, then I sincerely encourage one to go and make that happen (Although, the name doesn't quite have the same finesse. You might want to work on that bit.) Boobalicious took 'tit for tat' literally in showcasing and celebrating breasts for breast cancer, no matter how they dangled, and there is beauty to be seen in that.

You know what this city needs to do to raise awareness for such causes? Have sort sort of a "run for.." or a "bike for..."
Is it me or do we not do those types of things in Toronto? I think they would really catch on. We could have one for basically every little ailment possible, such as a "walk to stop paper cuts". Every other weekend we could shut down the Gardiner, the DVP or any other major artery into and out of the city for these walks, runs, bikes, skips, hops, etc. If you are listening City Hall make this happen! Guaranteed cures for everything will be found this way.

I've had the pleasure of attending Boobalicious not quite since its inception, but from its days of being a modest (but nonetheless great) private event 7 years ago. It's been amazing to see the journey the event's taken to become the fantastic Pink Playground that came to life two weeks ago and I'm couldn't be more thrilled that Louie Manzo and his team have decided to finally advertise publicly so even more people can partake in this fabulous event and help out this honourable cause. Besides being for a good cause, the production value is simply outstanding and something I haven’t seen anywhere else before in Toronto. My guests can’t stop talking about the amazing time they had and if I know Louie, he already has new and original surprises up his sleeve for next year! Congrats, Lou and the Boobalicious gang on a stellar event!
