Where else can you find a product this unique, well-made and tailored in Toronto?
Mel is warm, funny and knowledgeable.
I bring Jane, my Frames Maven because I'd need my own glasses to see what I look like.
AND EVERY TIME:
The person behind the counter studies my face thoughtfully,
walks around with a little tray selecting a frame from here, then there . . .
and I try those on, and Jane and the salesperson commiserate.
And EVERY TIME one of those 4-5 trial frames is The One.
Results?
CURRENT EXAMPLES ( The stranger always initiated):
1] Santa Barbara Ca. bus driver taking my ticket: "Those are nice glasses, by-the-way!"
2} Woman sitting next to me on a San Francisco bus: "Great glasses, and the green is just right!"
3} Rhinecliff N.Y.: Upscale contractor (wearing nifty frames): "Wow! Cool frames!
I've never seen anything like them and I live in NYC!"
4} Solon, Ohio, I'm in Brooks Bros.: A customer I've never met just walks up to me:
"That hat; the jacket, those glasses! The whole nine yards!"
5} Hip restaurant in Cleveland Heights Ohio: Woman from another table
walks up to me, "Pardon me, but I have to ask, Where did you get those glasses? They are beautiful"
- "Mel Rapp in Toronto."
(She sags, disappointed: "Toronto?!, Well of course they have glasses like that in Toronto." . . .
I'm 70 years old and (for several seconds, anyway) my Rapp glasses are a chick magnet.
Guys too:
6) I'm ready to pay my bill at a Tango Palace cafe on Queen E. "How much?" I ask.
The guy behind the counter says, "Oh, you don't have to pay all year if you give me your glasses!"
Rapp has lovely people in all ways, all these years. And I trust their judgement.
Personally I had no problem because she's good at doing the customer face thing.
Mel is odd, which is why i love him,
if i wanted to have a banker fit my glasses i would go to Hakim Optical.
What a ridiculous place! How do they stay in business?!? Do the people that shop here regularly like being abused and humiliated? Is it only masochists that shop here? Weird.
