Voices of Asia - Small World Asian Music Series

An Asian-Canadian celebration of women's songs and stories.

A special event for the Asian Music program, this 'cross-cultural incubator residency' is part of an ongoing Small World series that brings together artists who may not otherwise interact. In this instance, four of the city's most engaging female music creators come together to develop and present new, uniquely Canadian works that represent and celebrate the talent of Asian women in Toronto.

Featuring the copious talents of Suba Sankaran, Bandana Singh, Vandana Vishwas, and Amely Zhou, the concert will be the culmination of a four-day intensive collaborative process in which the participants exchange songs, influences and inspiration resulting in new repertoire that highlights the best of their collective strengths. Having the backing of tabla virtuoso Ed Hanley and multi-instrumental wizardry of Dylan Bell, the four singer-songwriter/ performers will showcase the diverse songs and stories of Asian-Canadian women.
