A selection of striking portraits and lively performance and candid images from Toronto-based photographer, David Kaufman, who for nearly two decades has been documenting the world of new Yiddish Music and the Klezmer revival. As official photographer at Canada's largest Jewish music festivals, KlezKanada in the Laurentian mountains of Quebec and the Ashkenaz Festival in Toronto, Kaufman has depicted the genre’s seminal performers together with their avid students from around the world. Taken together, these photos describe a multi-generational process of artistic creation, collaboration and cultural transmission within the eclectic and expanding field of popular Jewish music.
