Toronto Summer Music Festival: Christopher O'Riley

American pianist Christopher O’Riley is a genuine twenty-first century Renaissance man. Acclaimed for his engaging and deeply committed performances, he is also known to millions as the host of National Public Radio’s weekly program From the Top. His piano repertoire spans a kaleidoscopic array of music from the pre-Baroque to his own transcriptions for piano solo of music by such legends of British rock and pop as Radiohead, The Beatles, and Pink Floyd. He has received awards at the Leeds, Van Cliburn, Busoni and Montréal competitions, as well as an Avery Fisher Career Grant and the Andrew Wolf Memorial Chamber Music Prize. His extensive discography ranges from standard repertoire by Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, Ravel and Gershwin to recent works by composers such as John Adams.
