Toronto Chinatown Chinese New Year Festival 2015

Organized by the Toronto Chinatown Business Improvement Area (Chinatown BIA), this year’s Toronto Chinatown Chinese New Year Celebration (CNY) will be held on Saturday, February 21 and Sunday, February 22, 2015 at both Chinatown Centre and Dragon City Mall.

Please join us for our Opening Ceremony on February 21, 2015 at 12:00pm at Dragon City Mall followed by our second Opening Ceremony at 1:00pm at Chinatown Centre.

2015 is the year of the Ram. The Ram is a symbol of warmth, prosperity and gentleness. To celebrate the year of the Ram, there will be lots of traditional Chinese New Year décor, such as lanterns, red and gold linens, and Chinese New Year flowers. There will be different craft centers featuring Chinese origami, Ram crown making, and Chinese calligraphy. Also, the Toronto Zoo will be present with their Panda Mascot to wish everyone a happy New Year. These engaging activities will give the attendees an unforgettable experience.

The purpose of the Celebration is to gather the Chinese community to celebrate the New Year together. It is also an opportunity to introduce the Chinese tradition to other cultures in Toronto.

The Opening Ceremonies for the Chinese New Year Celebration will begin at Dragon City Mall at 12:00 noon on February 21st, 2015, and will then proceed to Chinatown Centre at 1:00pm for the second Opening Ceremony. Many dignitaries from the 3-levels of government, the Consulate General of The People’s Republic of China, corporate sponsors and community partners will be invited to the Opening Ceremonies. As part of the Opening Ceremonies, there will be lion dance performance and performance by Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship YORK Band.
