THEATRE: Superbutch #Mayworks2016

Tickets: $15/ PWYC

In an era of white, moneyed, thin, able-bodied ultra-feminine celesbians celebrity and lesbian, where are the butches? Through live music, a fashion show, a panel, and projected photographs, Superbutch looks at the history of working-class butch-femme culture in Toronto, and represents contemporary female masculinity and trans-masculinity as visible, desirable, and powerful.

Superbutch interrogates what it means to identify as butch or not to, and begins a conversation about representation and queer radicalism in an era of gay and lesbian respectability. Superbutch is serious and playful, one small show and larger than life.

Participating artists include Michle Pearson Clarke panel moderator, Jack Jackson organizer, founder of alljackedup and the Ties to Love Campaign, Janet Kimber photographer, and Dinah Thorpe organizer, live music.

Superbutch is part of the 31st annual Mayworks Festival of Working People and the Arts, set to take place from May 1 - 14, 2016 at various GTA locations. The full line-up of all events will be announced shortly. Stay tuned to our Facebook page and website: www.mayworks.ca.
