The James Plays - Luminato Festival

3 Scottish kings. 3 modern plays. 1 epic trilogy.

The National Theatre of Scotland’s 5-star epic trilogy The James Plays marks North American premiere at Luminato Festival June 16 to 26.

The James Plays bring to life three generations of Stewart Kings who ruled Scotland in the turbulent 15th century.

Staged in the custom built, 1200-seat Hearn Theatre, the heart of the Luminato’s residency in Toronto’s iconic, decommissioned power plant, and designed specifically for the needs of the trilogy, the plays can be seen as one-off pieces of theatre or as a binge-worthy, 11 hour theatrical marathon.

Each play, featuring a 20-person ensemble of Scotland & England’s finest performers, is presented as a standalone piece: James I: The Key Will Keep the Lock, James II: Day of the Innocents and James III: The True Mirror. Audiences can see one show or all three, enjoy them in any order, or binge watch the entire seven-and-a-half -hour trilogy (over 11 hours) on one of four marathon viewing days and fully embrace the monumental scope of these contemporary classics.

As with the inaugural productions of the plays and in keeping with the tradition of classical theatre in the round, each performance will have a limited number of seats available right on the stage, built into the set.

Tickets for The James Plays are available from $39 for single tickets or as a trilogy package from $160. For more information or to buy tickets visit https://luminatofestival.com/2016-Program/Events/James-Plays
