The Hidden Cameras at the McMichael

To celebrate the launch of their new album, Home on Native Land, slated for release October 28, Canadian indie-pop legends The Hidden Cameras will play a live acoustic concert at the McMichael Canadian Art Collection on the evening of Thursday, October 20.

Direct round-trip bus transportation to the McMichael in Kleinburg, ON, will be available from Toronto’s Gladstone Hotel. Pickup at the Gladstone will be at 6 pm, and the bus will bring all return guests back to the hotel by 11 pm.

The concert will be held in Gallery 8 at the McMichael, which is surrounded by the work of Canadian artists, including paintings by Tom Thomson, the Group of Seven, First Nations, Métis and Inuit artists, as well as historic and contemporary Canadian artists. The McMichael’s sprawling stone and hand-hewn log building is situated on 100 acres of pristine conservation land, mixed forests and hiking trails overlooking the Humber River Valley. This spectacular environment and the McMichael’s unparalleled collection of historically significant art work form the backdrop for this special performance.

The Hidden Cameras’ sixth album, Home on Native Land, was written and recorded over the span of 10 years by the band’s frontman, composer and lead songwriter, Joel Gibb, with friends, bandmates and icons that include Rufus Wainwright, Feist, Neil Tennant, Bahamas, Ron Sexsmith and Mary Margaret O’Hara. The album delivers infectious melodies (“Big Blue”) and wild hymns (“Drunk Dancer’s Waltz”), which are woven together by Gibbs’ honeyed vocals and sighing guitars.

Plus: Thirteen galleries with floor-to-ceiling windows. Five special exhibitions, plus a reframing of the permanent collection. One hundred acres of forested land along the Humber River Valley. Hiking Trails. The Sculpture Garden. Guided tours. Bring a picnic basket or grab a bite and a drink at the McMichael’s on-site restaurant.
