The Great TTC Knitalong is back and bigger than ever on Saturday July 12th, 2014. The Knitalong (KAL) is a yarn-filled annual charity event that brings together knitting and crochet fans from the GTA and beyond! Proceeds from the event go to Sistering: A Woman’s Place, a multi-service centre for homeless, at-risk and socially isolated women in Toronto.
Each July groups of excited crafters spend a Saturday shopping across Toronto, making new friends and boldly knitting in public. Travelling via TTC, the Knitalong teams create city wide visibility for their craft, while raising awareness for a wonderful charity. Participants pay a small donation to join and in return they receive great discounts and generously donated swag from local shops, designers, yarn companies, and knitting websites. At day’s end all team members gather at a downtown pub for story swapping and prize draws.
Since 2005 The TTC Knitalong has been run by a committed group of volunteers. They organize routes, register participants, and acquire sponsors. On July 12, fourteen volunteer captains will lead seven teams, venturing further than ever before. Last year we headed into Scarborough for the first time. This year, a shop in Etobicoke has joined our family!
Confirming their participation in 2014 are:
Americo, Creative Yarns, EweKnit, The Knit Cafe, Knit-o-matic, Ladee Bee, Lettuce Knit, Passionknit, The Purple Purl, Romni, Sew’N Knit’N Serge Outlet & Wool-Gathering,
The 2013 Knitalong rallied more than 110 knitters and raised the largest donation yet for Sistering. This year, with the return of long time partners and the addition of new retail friends, we look forward to even greater success.
