It's that time of year again, when we present three of our new sitcom writers' scripts to the public for a live reading with professional actors at Comedy Bar.

FROM SCHTICK TO SCRIPT is an original sitcom pilot writing incubator program which trains stand-up comics, improvisers, sketch artists and other writers and performers on how to apply their original comedic voice towards writing their first sitcom pilot, from raw idea to finished first draft script.

Students go through an initial one-week intensive lecture module with Daniela Saioni which also involves a rigorous idea testing process with Daniela and her dynamic co-story editor Annie Bradley. Some of the writers then go on to do a smaller group four-week Incubator session where ideas are fast-tracked from log line to a full script using the group dynamics of the writers' room along with the ongoing story editing guidance of Annie and Daniela. Once the incubator process is over, students have one month to revise and punch up their first drafts and the top three projects are selected for a live read and given a final set of detailed story editing notes before the show. The writers then do a further small rewrite and punch-up. The class shows are the first time we hear these scripts read out loud by professional actors for audience feedback, which helps all the writers take their scripts to the next level.

In three short sessions since 2012, our first-time writers have gone on to secure development deals, option agreements, staff writing jobs, or have simply gone on to continue with their television writing endeavours with newfound confidence.
