Summer Student Employment/ Audition Notice

SUMMER STUDENT EMPLOYMENT/ AUDITION NOTICE FOR CLAY & PAPER THEATRES SUMMER SHOW 2014

2014 is Clay & Paper Theatre's 20th season of asking big questions with humour and irreverence. Our mandate is to create, develop and perform multi-disciplinary, community-driven theatrical works using narrative theatre and large-scale puppetry in public spaces for large and diverse audiences.

We are seeking 4 to 8 post-secondary student performers for our summer production of ANIMAL NATURE, a new Canadian play by Clay & Paper's Artistic Director and public space performance pioneer, David Anderson.

These are full-time 35 hours/week positions from June 2nd to August 17th, 2014 eleven weeks with a variable schedule including performances in the evenings and on weekends. The positions are funded by HRSDCs Canada Summer Jobs program and Miziwe Biik Aboriginal Employment and Training and will pay at least $11.00/hour. For all positions you MUST be a post-secondary student returning to school in the fall, and be under 30 years of age.

Clay & Paper Theatre is a small but mighty OUTDOOR theatre company, so applicants must be prepared to work in beautiful Dufferin Grove Park in full public view in all kinds of weather and at a wide range of tasks to ensure the success of the summer show. The work will require a strong commitment to the artistic vision of the show and of the company and will require punctuality, flexibility, a willingness to learn and contribute, and individual organization. As a member of our summer troupe, performers will learn and participate in the art of puppet construction, puppeteering with puppets large and small, and outdoor performance skills. Performers will also engage in outreach, workshops, and additional performances in the community of Dufferin Grove Park. Musical ability will be honoured, as will construction skills.

Clay & Paper Theatre seeks and encourages applications from people of all backgrounds and levels of experience. Aboriginal performers including First Nations, Metis and Inuit are especially encouraged to apply.

Please submit your resume along with a brief statement of why you would like to join our motley crew to clayandpaper@sympatico.ca by Sunday, April 20th, 2014. Auditions will take place April 22nd - 28th 2014.
