PROJECT SPACE

July 30- August 22nd, 2015

Tradition

Daniele Dennis

Tradition explores the invisible/visible Black body through the merging of two ceremonial practices: the rice toss and the burial. The Black body is seemingly engulfed by well wishes yet struggles to remain conscious. The leftover rice present in the gallery prompts the viewers as witnesses to reflect on the execution of Black bodies.

MAIN SPACE

Girl Germs

Artists Involved:

Lauren Cullen, Beth Frey, Katie Morton and Amy Wong

Curated By: Emily Gove

Girl Germs features four emerging artists exploring feminist practices through painting, sculpture, collage and rug-hooking. Through their varying practices, Lauren Cullen, Beth Frey, Katie Morton and Amy Wong engage with theory and narrative through tactile exploration of material, generating work that is appealingly messy, combining nasty and sweet.

The Elusivity of Identity

Bijan Ramezani

Recycling and re-positioning current institutionalized images and narratives while putting them back within an institutionalized arena of post modern discourse, creating a portal to a new dimension. An advertisement to enter the institution, the gateway to culture. Identity has become elusive within the eyes of mass media, our sensibilities dulled by spectacles and repetitions, a non event to replace the familiar. Using the found narratives that exist within the institutionalized portrayal of the real, I am showing the image as it stands, raw and uncut. It is hard to escape from that which you cannot escape from. As hard as you try it’s impossible to grasp. It is what it is.

Has the real become more meaningful in its absence? Coming soon.

-Bijan Ramezani

EXTERNAL SPACE

August 4th - September 14th , 2015

Despondence

Katie Kotler

Despondence is a digital animation that plays with shapes in non-narrative space. Triangles and bubbles move around one another, while lines and bright colours slowly drift in and out of the screen. Masks, grids and ridges are incorporated to create a visual sense of pleasure and fun.
