Solo Exhibition: Mayra Majano

Labours

Mayra Majano

March 18 - April 5

Artscape Youngplace

First floor Vitrines

A meditation on the traditional representation and implementation of womens work, Labours explores the gendered narrative of weaving and textiles.

In this ongoing series of yet to be named works, Majano considers the actions of spinning and weaving, and their weighted connection to womens place within social structures. It is through the reappropriation and subversion of these actions and materials that she seeks to reinterpret and reclaim the idea of womens work, and what it means to create something of value.

Majanos next exploration within this series will take the form of a site specific installation at Artscape Youngplace on the second floor as a part of the group exhibition Nesting, from March 30 - April 5.

Reception:

Thursday April 2, 6 - 8pm

Second Floor Hallway Galleries

As a joint reception with group show, Nesting; see below for details.
