Silent Revue - Clara Bow in "IT"

TORONTO'S CELEBRATED ONGOING EXPLORATION OF SILENT CINEMA!

Silent Revue - Clara Bow in "IT" - Sunday, June 28th at 4:15 pm

72mins

Join us as we close out our year-long tribute to the first ladies of Hollywood, IT GIRLS: Sirens of the Silent Screen, with the girl who started it all, Clara Bow in IT!

Bow plays Betty Lou Spence, a plucky shop girl who uses her “It” factor to entice the department store’s owner Mr. Waltham (Antonio Moreno) away from his yacht club socialites and into her arms. Essential to Betty Lou’s mission: scooping up her intended and delivering him to the board walks of Coney Island, where hot dogs, funhouses and gyration-inducing amusement park rides win him over.

As Betty Lou, Clara is true blue. Not afraid to slap her boss when he gets fresh or punch his posh fiancé in the face, this shopgirl is breaking hearts and taking names, while also protecting her roommate, an unwed mother at risk of losing her child. IT film broke box office records and catapulted the actress from workaday cutie to the biggest star of the 1920s, forcing Hollywood’s flappers and vamps to bow to Clara.

See it the way it was meant to be seen — at the historic Revue Cinema with live musical score performed by New York-based accompanist Makia Matsumura!

$10 students, seniors, Star card members/$13
