Salon 21: Old Instruments, New Music

Featuring David Fallis & members of The Toronto Consort

The 20th century with all of its innovation also allowed for the investigation and intense scrutiny of the old. Medieval music became a musicological specialty that continues to pique the ears of those who hear it. The sounds of old instruments being revived fueled a curiosity that was shared by many composers and performers creating new music. Old sounds became new as these instruments were incorporated in new ways. We invite you to hear a hand-picked selection of performers on ancient instruments that also use them in contemporary and experimental ways. And more importantly, answer the question: how does one decide to switch from the electric guitar to the medieval lute?
