Queer Songbook Orchestra: Billy's Birthday, a Billy Strayhorn Centennial

Billy Strayhorn wrote some of the most classic songs of the jazz repertoire, including 'Take the A Train' and 'Lush Life'. But working in the shadow of Duke Ellington, and being an openly gay man in pre-Stonewall New York, his legacy has largely been obscured in the history books.

On this date, the 100th birthday of the late musician, Toronto's 13-piece Queer Songbook Orchestra will be paying respects to the artistry and integrity of the soft spoken genius, and taking a look back at his remarkable story.
