AKOUNAK EDALAT TAHA TAZOUGHAI (2015)

(aka “Rain the Color Blue With a Little Red In It”)

Director: Christopher Kirkley

Cast: Mdou Moctar

A revolutionary story of one musician’s struggle to make it, against all odds, in the raucous winner-takes-all Tuareg guitar scene of Niger, starring real life musician Mdou Moctar + more talent from the amazing Sahel Sounds record label (http://sahelsounds.com/)! Rain the Color Blue With a Little Red It (a literal translation of “Purple Rain” – the Taureg language has no word for “Purple”!) is the first film ever shot in the Saharan Tuareg language, and borrows the plot and style (purple motorcycle and purple robes!) from 19!84’s Purple Rain, as Mdou must battle fierce competition from Jealous musicians, overcome family conflicts, endure the trials of love, and overcome his biggest rival – himself. (75 minutes)

> 9:15PM - HEADLINER!

PURPLE RAIN (1984)

Director: Albert Magnoli

Cast: Prince, Apollonia, Morris Day

Prince’s lusty 1984 party opus was a smash hit movie and album (the first to feature his backing band The Revolution). The story of a young musician (Prince!), tormented by an abusive situation at home, who must contend with a rival singer (Morris Day of The Time!), a burgeoning romance (with Apollonia, last minute replacement for Prince’s former lover/protégé Vanity (RIP), plus his own dissatisfied band as his star rises, leading to an awesome battle of the bands. TOTAL '80s PRINCE PLEASURE!
