Plasticine Poetry Series - September 21

We're a little early for the autumnal equinox but Sept. 21 is the 2,033rd anniversary of the death of the Roman poet Virgil so thats something.

Come raise a glass to his good name at the Plasticine Poetry Reading Series. Doors at 6 pm; readings at 6:30. Open mic, poetry from a hat, and the always-entertaining Nicki Ward hosting.

This month we have another wonderful line-up of poets and authors:

David James Brock first collection of poetry is Everyone is CO2 Wolsak & Wynn. He is co-creator of Breath Cycle, an opera developed for singers with cystic fibrosis through Scottish Opera which was recently nominated for a Royal Philharmonic Society Award. He is currently working on his second collection of poetry, which will incorporate elements of progressive rock and science fiction. Dorianne Emmerton is a writer, theatre reviewer and radio host. Recent publications include stories in Friend. Follow. Text #storiesFromLivingOnline and Issue #1 of Beer And Butter Tarts, as well as a personal essay in A Family By Any Other Name: Exploring Queer Relationships. Her passions include summer, furry animals, and craft beer. Her website is dorianneemmerton.com.

Lisa Richter writes poetry in her native Toronto, and moonlights as an ESL and Grade 12 English teacher. Her poetry has been appeared in The Malahat Review, The Toronto Quarterly and The Scrivener Creative Review, and her chapbook, intertextual, was published by pooka press in 2011. Her writing can also be found in Jack Layton: Art in Action Quattro Books, 2013, and is forthcoming in Voices for Equity and Diversity in Education: A Literary Anthology, to published by Rowan and Littlefield Group in 2015.

Jessica Westheads novel Pulpy & Midge Coach House Books, 2007 was nominated for the ReLit Award. Her short story collection And Also Sharks Cormorant Books, 2011 was a Globe and Mail Top 100 Book and a finalist for the Danuta Gleed Short Fiction Prize. CBC Books has called Jessica one of the 10 Canadian women writers you need to read now. She is currently finishing up a new book of short stories.
