We enter March and the beautiful middle of our Spring season. New books are blooming and the old ones are just coming ripe. That was an awful sentence. Four readers: Kathryn Kuitenbrower’s new novel is being much discussed among the learned, Robert Priest is the platonic ideal of a “working artist”, and the recently-retired book publicist Evan Munday is one of Pivot’s very favourite people. Plus Robyn Doolittle, exposer of the soulsucking hellscape that is our civic life. So let’s gather.

Cast List:

Robyn... Doolittle is an urban affairs reporter with the Toronto Star. She began her career covering crime and moved to the municipal politics beat during the 2010 mayoral elections. A graduate of Ryerson University’s journalism school, Doolittle has lived in Toronto since 2002. She is the author of Crazy Town, a book about the mayor.

Kathryn Kuitenbrouwer is the author of the novels Perfecting and The Nettle Spinner, and the short story collection Way Up. Kathryn’s short fiction has been published in Granta Magazine, The Walrus, Numéro Cinq, Joyland, Filter Literary Journal, Significant Objects, and Storyville. She is the recipient of The Sidney Prize. Kathryn is an award-winning instructor with The University of Toronto’s School of Continuing Studies. Her newest book is the novel All the Broken Things.

Evan Munday is the illustrator of the novel Stripmalling by Jon Paul Fiorentino (ECW Press) and DOOM: Love Poems for Supervillains by Natalie Zina Walschots (Insomniac Press). Evan is also the cartoonist behind the self-published comic book, Quarter-Life Crisis, set in a post-apocalyptic Toronto, and the author of a Silver Birch-nominated series of novels for young adults, The Dead Kid Detective Agency.

Robert Priest is a poet, playwright, songwriter, and novelist residing in Toronto. He emigrated from England to Canada at an early age and studied Mathematics at the University of Waterloo. He has written fifteen books of poetry, the newest of which is Previously Feared Darkness from ECW. He has published and recorded numerous works for children, including The Ruby Hat, A Terrible Case of the Stars, and Rosa Rose.
