Peoples' Picnic: Mini Social Forum in Toronto

We are holding a mini Peoples' Social Forum in Toronto in preparation for the big event at the end of the summer!

Join us on June 7th for a food, sustainability, and social justice themed Peoples' Picnic. This picnic will include workshops and presentations from Occupy Gardens, the Toronto Seed Library, the Free and Accessible Transit Campaign of the GTWA, and several other local organizations and movements building towards a better future. It will also feature the musical stylings of Tyler Shipley of The Consumer Goods and other artists. Feel free to bring an instrument and regale us with your tunes or jam out in a musicians circle.

Much like the Peoples' Social Forum in August, this Picnic will be what you make of it. We encourage participants to form ad hoc assemblies, discussion groups, and to share their own experiences and skills. We are still working with other groups to offer exciting workshops and presentations on ongoing struggles and progressive initiatives, but will make sure to leave enough room for your innovation. Most of all, bring your positive and open mind as we discuss how to make our communities, country, and world a better place. This will be a fun and entertaining happening, as we gather in beautiful Trinity Bellwoods Park for a late spring Peoples' Picnic.

This is part of the 100 in 1 Day Toronto event: http://100in1day.ca/toronto/?pageid420#/?id300

Social Forums are spaces for activists, grassroots groups, scholars, and civil society organizations to come together to share knowledge and experience on social justice issues and organizing.

The first Social Forum was held in Porto Alegre, Brazil in 2001 and has since spread around the world as a means for progressive movements and people to connect, develop relationships, build solidarity, and strengthen campaigns and struggles for social, political, and economic change.
