MUSICAL GUESTS: NEW STEMS

https://www.facebook.com/newstems

All four members of New Stems have been comrades, amigos, and best buds since the early days of high school. Although we cater to a wide range of audiences our sound is often described with adjectives such as: folk," organic," jammy," wacky," and most notably, the cats pyjamas." Their oeuvre ranges from psychedelic rock to country, with a recurring focus on unique collaborative improvisation - exploring the myriad possibilities both within and outside of our songs. New Stems consists of Jordan Nussbaum, Tal Davidson, Daniel Korn, and Adam Borenstein.

JOHN NYMAN

...is a Toronto-based poet and London, Ontario-based PhD student. His research involves contemporary avant-garde poetry, deconstructive critical theory, and posthumanism. When he isn't busy selling out to the man, he spends his time workshopping bizarre verse forms and constructing art books of visual and experimental poetry.

LOTTERY TICKETS

...is a free jazz duo composed of trumpet and guitar player Alex Hood and saxophone and flute player Callum MacKenzie. Alex attended Bard College for composition and is a prolific songwriter and member of the upstate NY noisemakers Zombijazz. Callum drunkenly stumbled across the Pacific to Hong Kong after dropping out of Berklee College of Music and found himself playing in warehouses with the psychedelic free jazz duo The Composer's Union of New Tunes. As Lottery Tickets they make music that sometimes sounds like a lounge singer reaching into his guts and turning himself inside out, and sometimes like the mating call of a baboon that has spent too much time listening to Bernstein's Aaron Copland recordings.

ALANA P. COOK

...has been a feisty, driven feminist, spiritual, meditative, and mystical poet/activist since University days, and beyond--she graduated--in 2011, with an Honours degree in Women Studies & Creative writing. Since, that passage, she has been immersed somewhat in the writers community, and has been a proud volunteer for The Art Bar poetry series for two years. She has been a featured at: Hot Sauced Words, Loose Leaf Writers & Co, Flowetic Wednesdays. She recently won a poetry competition initiated by Beach Digital Media, where her epic poem Radium Blue was selected to be professionally recorded in the studio, and will be released soon on youtube, and other listening vessel channels. amen.

YOAV GUREVICH

...is a web developer and guitarist/lyricist whos too lazy to actually write compositions to accompany his words, so he ends up crassly and classily passing them off as poetry. Will listen to Duran Duran and Dessicate and pretty much everything in between. You will likely see him around the city trying to convince various bar owners to re-instate indoor smoking laws

...AND DON'T FORGET ABOUT THE OPEN-MIC! WE WANT TO EXPLORE THE DARK RECESSES OF YOUR SOUL!!!!!
