Opening Reception: Other Spaces by Fraser Hogarth

The DOC NOW Festival celebrates the work of established and emerging documentary practitioners from Ryerson Universitys Master of Fine Arts program in Documentary Media. This year we present Fraser Hogarth at TIW Gallery.

Other Spaces is a landscape photography project that examines commonplace urban sites where the citys tense and often paradoxical relationship with the natural world is contested. These sites reveal contemporary urbanitys conflict with the natural world as they stage the very contradictions that this society generates but is unable to resolve.

Fraser Hogarth is a photographer based in Toronto, Canada. Originally trained in Geography before beginning his MFA in Documentary Media, his practice draws upon both documentary and landscape photography traditions to explore contemporary human culture and the spaces it produces. Often adopting a distanced perspective, Fraser's work seeks to find the uncanny in the mundane, reveal hidden or overlooked geographies, and utilize the landscape as a place of social inquiry.
